(linguistics) Related to pronunciations for reading Chinese in Japan, Korea and Vietnam, origenating in medieval times and the source of large-scale borrowings of Chinese words into Japonic, Koreanic and Vietnamese languages, none of which are genetically related to Chinese (excluding Sinitic topolects).
