SOCIO 2215 (S7 903D) Race and Racism in America 3 Credit Hours

Provides sociological perspectives to understand the invention of race as a categorization of people. Examines how race and ethnicity influence people's daily experiences. Analyzes differential power between groups and the social structures that are used to maintain these power differences. Focuses on various dimensions of discrimination and prejudice, including an analysis of inequality and its origens, and conditions under which inequality occurs, persists, and changes. Identifies potential solutions to racial inequality. (3 lecture hours)

Prerequisite: Course requires Reading Placement Category One.
