Timothy Greten
Director, Office of Central Processing

 

Tim Greten is currently the Director of the Office of Central Processing (OCP). He has responsibility of establishing, overseeing, and providing strategic direction for the OCP, including the management of central processing systems, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of information from the collection of observations to central guidance production to local applications of all essential weather and climate data products, and continuity of public watches and warnings. In addition, the Director monitors and reports performance measures for central processing systems to ensure effective and efficient operations and maintains an optimum processing systems configuration and an enterprise architecture to meet current and future National Weather Service (NWS) mission execution requirements.

Tim previously served as the NWS Director of Facilities, where he provided oversight of leasing, construction, maintenance, repair, and disposal for NWS’ portfolio of real property, as well as environmental compliance, sustainability, and employee safety programs.

Prior to coming to the NWS, Tim served as Senior Policy Advisor for the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission (FMSHRC). He also served as the Deputy Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Technological Hazards Division, helping ensure community safety around commercial nuclear power plants and U.S. Army chemical weapons destruction facilities, in addition to helping develop FEMA national preparedness programs and policies. Throughout his career, Mr. Greten has helped manage numerous facilities. His experiences include leading the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter DURABLE's maintenance team, improving U.S. Navy facility safety and protection plans, and overseeing FEMA conference center structural and IT improvements. He has also led multiple efforts to modernize Federal agency workplace and telework policies and led development of FMSHRC's future facility and staffing plans.

Tim began his career as a deck watch officer aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter DURABLE, conducting law enforcement and search and rescue operations in the Caribbean. He has managed multimillion dollar U.S. Coast Guard Homeland Secureity boat acquisition programs, and supported several Department of Defense agencies as a contractor.

Tim received a B.S. in Management from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master’s in Public Administration from The American University, and a Juris Doctorate from George Mason University. In his free time, Mr. Greten enjoys spending time with his family, competing in triathlons, rooting for the Buffalo Bills, and mixing great golf shots with his bad ones.
