Inherited from Old Catalan peyrol, from Vulgar Latin *pariolum, diminutive of *parium, from Transalpine Gaulish parios, from Proto-Celtic *kʷaryos (cauldron). Compare Welsh pair and Irish coire. By surface analysis, pèr +‎ -ol.
