Each web page of the CAIN site specifies who holds the copyright for the material. Users of the CAIN site are permitted to make a single copy of material for their private use. Anyone who wishes to make multiple copies, or to use the material at a web site, or to use the material in a commercial publication (paper or electronic), will need contact the Project Manager (address below) and the original copyright holder.

Copyright Clearance Obtained by CAIN

It is the intention of CAIN to ensure that every effort is made to obtain copyright permission for material which is presented on the web pages.

Where the CAIN Project Team has been responsible for writing text, or taking photographs, that appear on a particular web page then the copyright rests with CAIN. Anyone wishing to make multiple copies, or to use the material at a web site, or to reproduce the material commercially, should contact the Project Manager (address below).

Where CAIN has commissioned text or photographs especially for the CAIN web site then the copyright rests with the person named on the particular page. Anyone wishing to make multiple copies, or to use the material at a web site, or reproduce the material commercially, should contact the Project Manager (address below) first and then the author.

Where the material was obtained from an existing publication, the CAIN Project Team have obtained permission from the author and the publisher to include the extracts in question at the CAIN web site. This permission does not cover multiple copies, or use at another web site, or commercial reproduction, by users of the CAIN site. Anyone wishing to make multiple copies, or to use the material at a web site, or to reproduce the material commercially, should contact contact the Project Manager (address below) first, and then the author and the publisher.

Anyone using the CAIN service has an implicit right of 'fair use'. Obviously a copy of the material can be stored in electronic form on the users local computer. It is also acceptable that a single paper copy may be made by the user. Any further use of the material, for example mounting the material at another web site or publishing the information in another form, is likely to be in breach of copyright and the user will have to obtain explicit permission for such use from the copyright holder.
