Low-quality AI images of (fictional?) coins. Out of COM:SCOPE.

    • Absolutely within the scope. Image is not (NOT AT ALL) of any particular coin. And suppose to illustrate coinage metals differences. As such its perfect to illustrate differences between various metal alloys used in the coinage minting.

Quote: "The expression "educational" is to be understood according to its broad meaning of "providing knowledge; instructional or informative"."

Quality is excellent (Original file (1,280 × 1,280 pixels, file size: 210 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg) for that purpose and not affected by wear on the actual coins or time of day or lightning conditions. So thetefore very premise for nomination is incorrect as these are specifically stated to be coin looking demonstration tokens. Quickly remove the nomination based on that reasoningCHYKOMC (talk) 01:16, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. We have no lack of real images of real coins made of real metals (and not, for example, the shiny blue nonsense in File:Coins-20241026-WA0079.jpg). There is no educational purpose which could possibly be served by these images. Omphalographer (talk) 02:03, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well may be you aren't aware of existing technology that allows anodized coins to be blue or green [1] (or maybe this: File:25 Euro Österreich 2003 Hall 03.jpg), but nonetheless its been around for a few years now. But yes if you know of pictures showing stated coinage metals that are all in one frame and of good quality let me know. Meanwhile your opinion that " we have enough of whatever " is just your opinion. I couldn't find what i need to illustrate articles i am working on.CHYKOMC (talk) 02:31, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Delete per nom. I strongly disagree with the claim "Quality is excellent" - some look ok at first quick look, some do not. Looking in more detail, they all have awkward nonsense scribble-like design and garbage pseudo-text. If done by a human artist as fictional coins, they would be a failure. I'd call the quality quite bad. If Commons was lacking in descent images of coins, such flaws might be given a pass, but such is not the case. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 23:45, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Missing the point here. Quality is EXCELENT for the purpose intended. If you critique the design then clearly we're not on the same page. Only one thing matters here. Are these educational in the metallurgy department? Not whatever it is the bestest design in engraving department. So its utterly irrelevant what text on them say or not. As for rhetorical questions about "if commons were lacking for whatever things would be different" all i can say find these wonderful illustrations that according to you are a dime a dozen...i'l wait... (seriously go find what you claim is there, because nobody else in this thread are seemingly able to)CHYKOMC (talk) 03:16, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Delete i fail to see the reason too don't get me wrong it's beautiful, but the reasoning here is about the educational purpose of it. i can see AI being used to demonstrate something isn't real or some new idea that isn't implemented yet with disclaim that this photo for demonstration, but that doesn't apply to your case.
i really hate that we have to get to this point. i really hope Wikipedia project in general take aggressive stance against AI,the main purpose of wiki project is to share and preserve the knowledge not to mutate it if you want to add coin to the collection i suggest you take photo of real one and maybe a rare one. 197.54.17.205 12:48, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well I feel that just like all the other replies to this deletion request this person here feels, that AI generated imagery is bad, it's evil and it is not real source of knowledge! and I agree with that last part: AI is not a source of knowledge- it is a tool just like any other image editing tool before only little better. let me remind you that we all take pictures with electronic cameras that those pictures can be edited! now if we were Amish I would agree with you, that this evil modern electronic equipment need to be banned, but I'm not Amish. but back to the point here... yes I can take a snapshot of the coin, but it's not going to solve any of my problems here. I'm trying to illustrate an article about various coinage metals and I do not have every possible coin in my collection, that I need for that, and, btw commons not and NEVER was limited to photography.
I used this illustration before for example. Definitely NOT a photo.

Please let me remind you that Wikipedia Commons serves the purpose of accumulating various illustrations and photographs that are used in the Project Wikipedia and it is not in and of itself is a source of knowledge of anything. knowledge comes from the article on Wikipedia where illustration is explained and elucidated to the reader and therefore if we use image generator as a source of illustration to work hand in glove with written knowledge then it is a good thing.
