This completely misses the point. File:Badjpeg.jpg is meant to illustrate the compression artifacts of JPEG. nyuszika7h (talk) 21:16, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have a problem with deleting the file, but I think is scientifically interesting to compare Quality and File-Size of different Types, therefore
83x27Pixels: 453 Bytes (JPG with lowest quality)
83x27Pixels: 211 Bytes (PNG with highest compression level)
83x27Pixels: 160 Bytes (SVG with most efficient code)

That's true, I didn't think of that. It can be linked as another version, but {{Vector version available}} implies that one should be preferred, although it does say "when not inferior" so I don't know. Either way, I'm withdrawing the nomination. nyuszika7h (talk) 08:41, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nyuszika7H:
{{Vector version available}} says (in the english version)
filename.svg is a vector version of this file.
For more information, see Help:SVG.
here is nothing about which one is preferred.
On commons are different templates, some are just informing about other versions, other tells you to use an other version, and everything between is also available.
Templates
Beginning from the weak formulation to the strong formulation:
  1. Just informs about other version:{{Vector version available}}
  2. Says you should use the other one if it is better: {{Bitmap version available}}
  3. You should create it in vector format: {{Convert to SVG}}
  4. This picture was uploaded in a stupid format: {{BadJPEG}}
  5. This picture is superseded by another one: {{Superseded}}
Usage and Reason
  • As you can see i used the weakest formulation on File:Badjpeg.jpg, which only informs about an other file, but does not say anything about which one you should take.
Which makes sense due to the fact that most want to show the artifacts, but in some cases they want to know, how the picture would that be as a vector-file.
  • I used a slightly stronger version for File:Badjpeg.svg, which says that the better version should be taken,
Which makes sense, due to the fact that you can compare the JPG with Vector (font looks different) or (intelligent) Raster graphics(has still pixels).
  • I used the strongest version for File:Badjpeg.png, which says that the JPG schould be used with the reason:„JPEG has a bigger file size (more colours) and creates JPEG-Artifacts, which the PNG can't“
Which makes sense, due to the fact that this picture as you wrote above should show the artefacts.
conclusio
I think we can add {{Vector version available}} to the File:Badjpeg.jpg again, due to the fact that it only informs about the other file.

@JoKalliauer: Oh, I see, I don't know why I thought it said it's preferred. Never mind then, feel free to add it back. nyuszika7h (talk) 16:06, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
