Abstract

The paper uses the layered multicast to satisfy different QoS requirements from different users, and combines the RSVP, providing the users suitable services, in the heterogeneous wireless network environment. When the user is in a heterogeneous wireless network environment, the first coming problem will be how to reduce the service delay or interruption that handoffs cause. So, this paper uses the concept of mobile agents, dispatching the mobile agents to request for reservations in advance, to provide the service quality assurance and to reduce service time, before the user handover to another homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless network. The paper also proposed the policies of bandwidth reservation to overcome the service interruption caused by network congestion. The proposed bandwidth reservation policies could decrease the blocking rate of new generating calls and handoff calls. By the simulation results, the proposed bandwidth reservation policies could decrease the blocking rate of new generated calls and handoff calls, and also decrease the packet loss rate.
