Greg, you can't make a blanket statement like, He is known as the premier photographer of the Monterey Peninsula during the late 19th-century. when only one person wrote that. Instead you could say, "(Author's name) wrote that he was ....." or "He was described in the magazine of the Calif. Hist. Society as the ......." Understand the difference between what is currently in the lead, and a more neutral, encyclopedic way of stating something which does not does not give the claim undue weight. @Netherzone and Greghenderson2006: This is a textbook example of a WP:ECREE situation, particularly given its subjective opinionated language casting the subject in a blatantly positive light. Under Career section, for the paragraph: "Johnson moved to California in 1857, along the North Fork Feather River. He later worked in the silver mining area of Grass Valley by 1863. That same year he journeyed to Nevada, where he worked as a one-man band and taught dance, before returning to San Francisco in 1868.[failed verification] On July 6, 1868, he traveled to Humboldt Bay by the steamer Del Norte. On July 11, he helped out the Tanner Troupe, a local theatre troupe.[not specific enough to verify]"
Please replace with the following:
