editCould you please remove unreliable sources from the article Pooja Hegde. Thesanas (talk) 09:03, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Thesanas, I haven't worked on this article before, so I am not sure I am the best person to help. I'd suggest reaching out to one of the regular contributors instead. – DreamRimmer (talk) 07:58, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

NPP School Update
editHello @DreamRimmer! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to check about the NPP School Program that I had joined. I had completed the first section of the NPP Exam on the 11th of November. However, it has been almost a month since I submitted my response, and I haven't received any comments from you. I understand that you may be occupied with real-life activities, however I spent a lot of time writing down my responses and I do not want it to go to waste. Therefore, I sincerely request you to review my responses. Thank you, TNM101 (chat) 10:04, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reminder! I will go through your responses tomorrow when I have some free time. – DreamRimmer (talk) 10:25, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

INFOBOXIMAGE
editHi DreamRimmer, I noticed that you removed the image I added to the infobox of Paul Begaud with a reference to INFOBOXIMAGE. Could you clarify the issue? I’d like to address it and ensure the image meets Wikipedia’s standards. Thanks! Everglass (talk) 23:19, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Everglass, when adding an image to an infobox, thumbnails should not be used. You had used thumbnails in the infobox, so I fixed it. I later noticed that the file URL was invalid (a red link), so I removed it. Feel free to add a valid image again. – DreamRimmer (talk) 07:54, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Query about a query
editHello, DreamRimmer,
Do you remember, way back in October, when you first told me about your query to find G13 eligible drafts whose last edit was by a bot? Well, I ended up forking your query (see here). I hope that was okay but I realize that I should have asked you at the time. Well, I sometimes run this query, even though it was older and didn't include some bots like CommonsDelinker. Of course, GalaxyBot is the most up-to-date and efficient tool we have. But I still sometimes run this query in between GalaxyBot reports. It used to find some G13 eligible drafts but for the past week, it's come up with 0 results with every query I've run.
Is it no longer a valid query? Do you have something that is more up-to-date that I could use when I want to run a query on my own? Thanks for all of your help with all-things-technical. Liz Read! Talk! 06:09, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- You will need to update the interval time from 184 DAY to 183 DAY in four spots in this query to get the current results. – DreamRimmer (talk) 07:41, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, I will try that. Also, there seems to be a problem with GalaxyBot today, it hasn't produced reports for the past few hours. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:08, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Just an update, DreamRimmer, that GalaxyBot is still out of commission since yesterday. Liz Read! Talk! 08:11, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Liz: thanks for the message. I am aware of this. Many bots, including GalaxyBot, are unable to edit due to maxlag. The relevant Phabricator ticket is T382625. Once this is resolved, it will automatically start working again. – DreamRimmer (talk) 08:18, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-50
editLatest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Weekly highlight
- Technical documentation contributors can find updated resources, and new ways to connect with each other and the Wikimedia Technical Documentation Team, at the Documentation hub on MediaWiki.org. This page links to: resources for writing and improving documentation, a new #wikimedia-techdocs IRC channel on libera.chat, a listing of past and upcoming documentation events, and ways to request a documentation consultation or review. If you have any feedback or ideas for improvements to the documentation ecosystem, please contact the Technical Documentation Team.
Updates for editors
- Later this week, Edit Check will be relocated to a sidebar on desktop. Edit check is the feature for new editors to help them follow policies and guidelines. This layout change creates space to present people with new Checks that appear while they are typing. The initial results show newcomers encountering Edit Check are 2.2 times more likely to publish a new content edit that includes a reference and is not reverted.
- The Chart extension, which enables editors to create data visualizations, was successfully made available on MediaWiki.org and three pilot wikis (Italian, Swedish, and Hebrew Wikipedias). You can see a working examples on Testwiki and read the November project update for more details.
- Translators in wikis where the mobile experience of Content Translation is available, can now discover articles in Wikiproject campaigns of their interest from the "All collection" category in the articles suggestion feature. Wikiproject Campaign organizers can use this feature, to help translators to discover articles of interest, by adding the
<page-collection> </page-collection>
tag to their campaign article list page on Meta-wiki. This will make those articles discoverable in the Content Translation tool. For more detailed information on how to use the tool and tag, please refer to the step-by-step guide. [1] - The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, now has a multiselect filter for namespace selection. This enables users to select multiple specific namespaces, instead of only one or all, when fetching pages for deletion.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions. Thanks to Chlod and the Moderator Tools team for both of these improvements. [2]
- The Editing Team is working on making it easier to populate citations from archive.org using the Citoid tool, the auto-filled citation generator. They are asking communities to add two parameters preemptively,
archiveUrl
andarchiveDate
, within the TemplateData for each citation template using Citoid. You can see an example of a change in a template, and a list of all relevant templates. [3] - One new wiki has been created: a Wikivoyage in Indonesian (
voy:id:
) [4] - Last week, all wikis had problems serving pages to logged-in users and some logged-out users for 30–45 minutes. This was caused by a database problem, and investigation is ongoing. [5]
- View all 19 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a bug in the Add Link feature has been fixed. Previously, the list of sections which are excluded from Add Link was partially ignored in certain cases. [6][7]
Updates for technical contributors
- Codex, the design system for Wikimedia, now has an early-stage implementation in PHP. It is available for general use in MediaWiki extensions and Toolforge apps through Composer, with use in MediaWiki core coming soon. More information is available in the documentation. Thanks to Doğu for the inspiration and many contributions to the library. [8]
- Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. On December 4, the MediaWiki Interfaces team began rerouting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content endpoints on testwiki from RESTbase to comparable MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The team encourages active users of these endpoints to verify their tool's behavior on testwiki and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket before the end of the year, as they intend to roll out the same change across all Wikimedia projects in early January. These changes are part of the work to replace the outdated RESTBase system.
- The 2024 Developer Satisfaction Survey is seeking the opinions of the Wikimedia developer community. Please take the survey if you have any role in developing software for the Wikimedia ecosystem. The survey is open until 3 January 2025, and has an associated privacy statement.
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week. [9]
Meetings and events
- The next meeting in the series of Wikimedia Foundation discussions with the Wikimedia Commons community will take place on December 12 at 8:00 UTC and at 16:00 UTC. The topic of this call is new media and new contributors. Contributors from all wikis are welcome to attend.

Infobox US university ranking ARWU removal
editHello, you recently removed ARWU_NU
and ARWU_W
from all relevant university articles to help with an AutoWikiBrowser task (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks/Archive_18#Category:Pages_using_infobox_US_university_ranking_with_unknown_parameters).
These parameters were actually restored (removal reverted) the next day in the "Template:Infobox US university ranking/doc" (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3AInfobox_US_university_ranking%2Fdoc&diff=1251171664&oldid=1250304292).
It seems like the actual intention is to only remove ARWU_NU
and leave ARWU_W
, based on the discussion at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Infobox_US_university_ranking#This_template_causes_articles_using_it_to_generate_undefined_references. Hotdogcat (talk) 04:58, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- It was removed as per the AWBREQ request. I have no opinion on this, but please let me know if you need my help restoring it. – DreamRimmer (talk) 06:21, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh yes I would like to request your assistance to restore them, thank you! Hotdogcat (talk) 06:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Before doing so, I would like to see what Primefac thinks about this, as the removal was requested by them. – DreamRimmer (talk) 06:41, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I only requested on behalf of another editor; if discussion is needed, it should probably be on the template's talk page. Primefac (talk) 11:21, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Based on the template's talk page mentioned by user Primefac in their reply above (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Infobox_US_university_ranking#This_template_causes_articles_using_it_to_generate_undefined_references), it looks like at least
ARWU_W
should be restored (Mikecurry1 who first raised this issue most recently stated "The ARWU_W paratmeter would make sense to stay in the template because there is an actual ARWU worldwide ranking"). Hotdogcat (talk) 16:35, 18 December 2024 (UTC)- Done. Restored ARWU_W on 149 pages and skipped those with empty values. It was a challenging task because all the pages had been edited after my changes, so I had to write a complex script to restore it. – DreamRimmer (talk) 12:32, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! Hotdogcat (talk) 14:16, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed, nice one. Yes, the reference error should have been restored.Mikecurry1 (talk) 12:48, 22 December 2024 (UTC)

Archiving my user talk page
editHello! More than two months ago, you recommended I use an archiving scheme for my user talk page (linked here), rather than manually deleting old or stale discussions. I was wondering if you're still open for helping me set that up, on the condition that previously deleted discussions (only available through the user talk page's edit history) can also show up in the archive. Thanks so much for your time, and cheers to a new year :-). LR.127 (talk) 17:50, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- @LR.127, It's time for bed; I'll set it up tomorrow. – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:57, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
- @LR.127: Done. I have created Archive 1 and moved all threads from the edit history into it. I have set up an archive config on your talk page, and a bot will now archive threads older than 10 days. The archive size is set to 175K, and it will keep 5 threads on the talk page while archiving a minimum of 2 threads at a time. If you'd like to adjust the configuration, please refer to Help:Archiving a talk page#Example with sequentially numbered archives. – DreamRimmer (talk) 14:43, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 26
editHello everyone, and welcome to the 26th issue of the Wikipedia Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 August 2024. At press time, over 94% of the world has legally fallen prey to the merry celebrations of "Christmas", and so shall you soon. It's been a quiet 4 months, and we hope to see you with way more new scripts next year. Happy holidays! Aaron Liu (talk) 05:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
Featured script
edit- Very useful for changelist patrollers, DiffUndo, by Nardog, is this edition's featured script. Taking inspiration from WP:AutoWikiBrowser's double-click-to-undo feature, it adds an undo button to every line of every diff from "show changes", optimizing partial reverts with your favorite magic spell and nearly fulfilling m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo.
Miscellaneous
edit- Doğu/Adiutor, a recent WP:Twinkle/WP:RedWarn-like userscript that follows modern WMF UI design, is now an extension. However, its sole maintainer has left the project, which still awaits WMF mw:code stewardship (among some audits) to be installed on your favorite WMF wikis.
- DannyS712, our former chief editor, has ascended to MediaWiki and the
greenerpurpley pastures of PHP with commits creating Special:NamespaceInfo and the__EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__
magic word to exclude a template from Special:UnusedTemplates! I wonder if Wikipedia has a templaters' newsletter...
Improve a script
edit- Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager, Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts, and Bradv/Superlinks haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
- Elominius/media timer and PrimeHunter/Search sort work, yet have alien user interface design. Someone could improve them...
- BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.
Requested scripts
editWe need scripts that...
- allow you to edit {{sfn}} references graphically a la Ingenuity/ReferenceEditor
- copy specific named references from other pages to help with splitting and whatnot
- make adding icons/links to the top toolbar (or other portlets) much easier
- graphically generate a {{source assess table}}
- award a Four Award
- ...and many more, all available at Wikipedia:User scripts/Requests. Thanks to the editors at US/R—including Nardog, User:Novem Linguae, User:Jeeputer, and many more!—for their work in processing userscript requests this past year.
Updated scripts
edit- Andrybak/Unsigned helper forks Anomie/unsignedhelper to add support for binary search, automatic edit summaries after generating the {{unsigned}} template, support for {{undated}}, and support for generating while syntax highlighting is on.
- Pour one out: DreamRimmer/User not around forks Andrybak/Not around to allow configuration precise to a number of days (from the original precision of years).
- Red-tailed hawk/cv revdel forks Enterprisey/cv-revdel to automatically add CopyPatrol reports.
- Polygnotus/Move+ updates BilledMammal's classic Move+ to add automattic watchlisting of all pages—except the target page(s)—changed while processing a move.
Newly maintained scripts
edit- Administrators only! Novem Linguae/UnblockReview forks the now-broken Enterprisey/unblock-review to review unblock requests with a graphical interface.
New scripts
edit- 1AmNobody24: Find Link provides a shortcut to its namesake tool, Edward/Find link, which helps de-WP:ORPHAN articles.
- Andrybak: Contribs ranger (pictured) generates links to a limited range of user contributions, log items, or page history. You see, it's not just contribs!
- CanonNi/VoteVisualizer is a rewrite of Pythoncoder/voteSymbols that makes everything saner to configure.
- When viewing Category:Articles missing coordinates with coordinates on Wikidata, Jeeputer/coordInserter adds links to automatically insert coordinates into the article selected.
- To satiate archaeology and curiosity (the same thing, perhaps?), JJPMaster/AfC time logger logs the time it takes for a user to review each submission to Wikipedia:Articles for creation.
- Natdog/InsertAnyChar adds a searchable list of all Unicode characters to the 2010 source editor.
