In the report above it appears that you still use an older version of WikiFunctions.dll (v 5.3.1.0). This means your installation was imperfect. You need to make a new clean installation of AWB. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:44, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try deleting AWB entirely and installing a fresh new version. - FakirNL (talk) 19:51, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

putin regime - "mafia state" anachronism

[1] hi i want to get more people to discuss the mafia state anachronism so to get some real multi user consensus, what is your opinion and please tell us at the given wikipedia talkpage link Peterzor (talk) 19:00, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the only change I made to the article Vladimir Putin was a technical one, I fixed a link from a disambiguation page to the correct page. Please keep that difference in mind. - FakirNL (talk) 20:09, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Peanut soup has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NOTRECIPE

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Medals

Hello.

Regarding your revert of my edit on 2012–13 ISU Speed Skating World Cup. Sure, the athletes win a full medal, as there are no half-gold half-silver medals, but how does it count in the statistics? If you have a shared gold medal, it's obviously less worth than one that's been won outright, as you didn't beat all your competitors; you tied with at least one. Likewise, shared silver and bronze medals are less worth than medals won outright.

In country statistics, countries could, at least theoretically (and depending on sport), manipulate the medal table by letting two (or more) leading competitors of the same nationality share first place, thus obtaining two (or more) gold medals for the country, instead of one gold and one silver.

Do you have a source for the medal table?

Regards

HandsomeFella (talk) 09:32, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
Shared medals have always counted the same way as non-shared ones as far as I remember. Maybe you think it's worth less, but that's probably not the deciding factor. I see what you mean by manipulating the medal table but in speed skating that would be incredibly hard to do on purpose! Trying to skate a time of (let's say) exactly 1:45.67(8) is practically impossible. Of course in other sports it might be slightly easier, especially those sports where you set a bar then aim for it and then either pass or fail (pole vault and high jump).
When you look at 2012 Summer Olympics medal table you'll find two shared silver medals and even a three-way shared bronze medal that are all counted as full. In 302 events a total of 304 silver medals were won. It's not really a source claiming it should be done this way but at least you'll see it's common practice to count shared medals as full ones. I had never seen shared medals counted as half ones before.
It seems strange that there is no article medal table yet and the most general article about the subject, Olympic medal table doesn't mention shared medals.
P.S. I have never heard anyone being referred to as "shared Olympic champion" or "shared Nobel Prize winner".
With kinds regards, - FakirNL (talk) 10:33, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi.
Yes, of course it would be hard manipulate the result in sports like speed skating (that's why I wrote "theoretically"), but it might occur even without manipulation (which it did here). Would it be fair or correct to count that as two gold (or silver or bronze) medals for the country? I think not. This is more important in the lower parts of the medal table. Let's say that Country 1 only manages to achieve one 1st place and one 2nd place in one sport, and that Country 2 only managed to have 2 athletes sharing 1st place in another sport. In both cases, the countries' athletes had no competitors in front of them, and the rest of the field behind them. Would it be fair to say then that Country 1 took 1 gold and 1 silver medal, while Country 2 took 2 gold medals, just because the athletes of Country 2 happened to have the same result? In relation to the rest of the field, the countries' performances were identical.
In the case of the ISU World Cup, the prize money for shared places "will be the average amounts for the applicable ranking positions", i.e. two winners divide the sum of the prize money for the first two places evenly between themselves (according to the source, page 10), so it's perfectly plausible thath they think of medals the same way. That's why I asked if you had any source for the medal table. I haven't been able to locate one.
One might not say "shared Olympic champion" (or Nobel Prize winner), but one can definitely say "joint Olympic champion".
HandsomeFella (talk) 13:15, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Try googling "joint Olympic champion", I hardly get any results. The prize money for shared places might be averaged, but maybe that's just because of monetary constraints? And your argument is easily countered by noting that in case of a tie both skaters get full points and a full physical medal (and isn't this last thing what really counts?). Whether you or I think it's fair is totally not relevant. I think jury sports are unfair but that doesn't change the way the ISU or IOC see them.
In my home Wiki, the Dutch version, there is a page called Wikipedia:Sports Cafe that is used as the village pump for sports related discussions. Do you know of such a place here on the English Wikipedia? Might be interesting to have some more opinions about this subject. - FakirNL (talk) 13:33, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the points might indicate otherwise. When it comes to the physical medal, that might be explained by the fact that it would probably be a little weird with half-gold half-silver medals. It would also be hard to make plans for how many that would need to be manufactured.
Cheers. HandsomeFella (talk) 13:55, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Arne Johansen, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Orland (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

World Cup 1

Hello Fakir.

Thanks for the fixes and corrections you've made to the 2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup.

The World Cup commences next weekend, with World Cup 1 in Calgary. Due to an upcoming family occasion, also the next weekend, I might not be able to keep the articles up to date resultwise. I assume you will update the articles in the Dutch wiki. Would you also be able to help out in the English ones, if you notice that I'm unable to find time for it?

Thanks in advance.

HandsomeFella (talk) 11:06, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll keep an eye on the main article (2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup – World Cup 1), but I'm not sure about all the other race articles in Category:2013–14 ISU Speed Skating World Cup – World Cup 1. It's a lot of work and you knew it was going to be when you prepared all the pages. - FakirNL (talk) 12:43, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know. Thanks anyway. HandsomeFella (talk) 15:09, 2 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Remia

Hello, thanks for editing Fritessaus, and pointing out why. Could you please take a look at the Remia-article I just created? I do not want it to be deleted because someone considers it "more as an advertisement." Best regards,Jeff5102 (talk) 12:10, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FIFA 2014 knockouts

Re: my observation about the group winners in "Talk"--I ran it past Google News before I wrote that, and there was nothing about it. So I probably made the observation about the time they did. Regards Tapered (talk) 02:46, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Something more about the and/or issue

Codename Lisa is right. We are not that picky with highly-visible templates. By the way, it's lucky that the two template editors concerned did not blaze out with the "edit warring" accusation. (Some editors'd freak out harassing and attacking you, not stopping at anything) We should always assume good faith to avoid that. Good day!Forbidden User (talk) 12:12, 14 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
