    Broken archives

    [edit]

As noted by Jtayl132 (talk · contribs) at Portal talk:Current events/March 2016, some of the monthly archives are currently displaying no news, because the pages have dropped into Category:Pages where post-expand include size is exceeded. Part of the problem is the switch from {{Current events header}} to {{Current events}}, as each day's news is passed into the header template and counts towards the post-expand size. But I've managed to fix Portal:Current events/March 2016 just by applying subst: to the call to Portal:Current events/Month Inclusion (diff).

Any comments, before I do that to the other 30+ broken archives? -- John of Reading (talk) 09:11, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done Four of the archives are still in the error category, but they are displaying much more of their content than before. -- John of Reading (talk) 09:01, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(More) I happened to notice that {{Current events}} has undocumented "top" and "bottom" parameters which can reduce the post-expand include size of particular subpages. I've used that on just enough subpages to clear those four archives out of the error category. -- John of Reading (talk) 15:26, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone add a protection on the section for december 5th?

    [edit]

Can someone add a protection on the section for December 5th? An IP keeps trying to alter the addition that states that the Amnesty International accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza by removing the genocide mention and replacing it with war crimes when the article's title clearly states that Amnesty believes Israel to be committing genocide. change "signs a agreement" to "signs an agreement" 57.140.108.2 (talk) 18:29, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Two people signed an agreement, so the third-person plural is correct. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:21, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Error with page

    [edit]

The event which is meant to be put in the January 6 category, remains outside of the box. Could someone fix this? Vandam574 (talk) 08:45, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Someone fixed it, all good now Vandam574 (talk) 09:16, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Misspelling.

Change the final word in the sentence:

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that the country will not hold presidential elections as long as the country is under martial law, even if Russia puts it as a pre-condition for negotations."

    from "negotations"

    to "negotiations". David A Gilmour (talk) 21:05, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@David A Gilmour:  Done, well spotted. Actually, although the Portal:Current events is protected from editing, each day's news is not. You can edit a day's news by clicking the "edit" link to the right of the date. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:28, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    RSS feed

    [edit]

Is there any reason not to add an RSS feed for Current events? A similar example is the feed for On this day (RSS 2.0 feed, generated with MediaWiki's FeaturedFeeds extension).

This has been brought up before: 2006, 2010, 2013 and most recently 2020.

I imagine that the easiest/most standard way to get this done would be to do the same as On this day and use SelectedFeeds to generate one feed entry for each day. Robinmetral (talk) 04:15, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
