Thank you for your contributions being a New page reviewer, however I am extremely concerned about your reviewing. There are several issues with the articles that you have approved or patrolled: |
|||
#Robotics Education & Competition Foundation as approved reads as an advertisement. Normally I would just delete it under G11, but I see potential in the article from sources I found in Google. On top of that there were several SPS issues with the article outlined by Drewmutt. |
|||
#This was put into the mainspace without any proper referencing except for the work they had done, and continues to have SPS issues. Along with sources missing about personal characteristics. |
|||
#Odus Creamer Horney has more SPS issues. The only thing that is potentially reliable is Generals in Khaki which I don't have access to. Several articles you use rely solely on this book. |
|||
#Tiemann Newell Horn solely relies on the book, flirting the line with WP:GNG. |
|||
#John Augustus Hulen relies solely on the book again, except for one source verifying honours. There are also SPS issues here. |
|||
#Elizabeth O. Hiller does not assert any sort of notability. It could be A7d at any point. The sourcing on this article is not only crap to understand, but the links only link to google books information about the book. Then i'm down to only a single source I can verify. |
|||
#The entire article for Theodor Juynboll only cites Encyclopedia Britannica. I hope to god that this is not solely a copy paste of what is said in a single view of the subject. |
|||
#Lastlty, Kiki Ayers, which you approved, was deleted for "all looks like self promotion" "sources look like regurgitated press releases" and lack of notability compliance. |
|||
I would therefore ask that 1) You re-familiarize yourself with policy, especially around sourcing 2) Potentially look over the guide 3) This would really go a long way if you brought these articles into compliance with policies. If these issues continue in the future, any admin has the ability to remove the New Page Reviewer right from you, and also potentially the autopatrol right. If you have any questions, please ask. -- <span style="color:white;background-color:#8A2DB8"><b>Amanda</b></span> <small>(aka DQ)</small> 00:45, 23 October 2018 (UTC) |
|||
:User:DeltaQuad Thank you for expressing your concerns. Considering how many articles are stuck in the review process, I would think that all admins would want help reducing the backlog and hope that some tagging and corrections are better than none. So, lets address these in the order you presented them. |
|||
#Robotics Education & Competition Foundation Yes, it needs work. You are right I should have tagged it with the advertisement tag. |
|||
#This Also has issues. I should have tagged it appropriately. |
|||
The next four are still in development and the articles are part of the GLAM project that I am supervising: |
|||
#Odus Creamer Horney |
|||
#Tiemann Newell Horn |
|||
#John Augustus Hulen |
|||
#Elizabeth O. Hiller |
|||
Interns and volunteers are doing the work on these articles. You will notice that they have seen a lot of traffic and improvement. All pass notability, even if that hasn't been expressed well in their ledes yet. |
|||
Additionally, Generals in Khaki is a extremely reliable source available at many academic institutions. Here's the full citation: Davis, Henry Blaine. Generals in Khaki. Raleigh, N.C.: Pentland Press, 1998. ISBN 1571970886 40298151 |
|||
#Theodor Juynboll cites Encyclopedia Britannica's public domain version. I do not work at a religious library so I did not add additional citations, but I have worked at other kinds of libraries in the past and I know the citations are out there. |
|||
I will review the appropriate policies and ask that you be lenient towards those who are new to the page patrolling process and to the many new editors who pages are being reviewed. TeriEmbrey (talk) 17:53, 23 October 2018 (UTC) |
|||
:By no means am I trying to be harsh towards any newer editors. All I did was tag one article with one source. For your GLAM projects, especially Elizabeth O. Hiller, they are better suited in the draft space so that they can be developed to an appropriate level without being disturbed, deleted, or tagged. Moving them to the article space puts them, and again especially Elizabeth O. Hiller, up for potential deletion. I may not delete it, but we have 1203 other administrators that could do it at any time, and millions of editors that could nominate them for deletion. If they were in the draft space, I wouldn't have come to your talkpage with concerns on those pages. Just the other 3. So I would highly recommend incubating them to draft space while they are worked on. I can assist with that if you wish. |
|||
:As for Theodor Juynboll, I have tagged it appropriately as it is not part of the GLAM program. |
|||
:I don't doubt the reliability of Generals in Khaki as I have no ability to review it, but Wikipedia builds itself on multiple, reliable, independent sources when it comes to articles. I don't have a concern about that source, but the use of other sources or lack thereof. |
|||
:Please understand I am trying to help here. There are several other actions that I could have taken, but didn't, and used my discretion instead. -- <span style="color:white;background-color:#8A2DB8"><b>Amanda</b></span> <small>(aka DQ)</small> 20:30, 23 October 2018 (UTC) |

Welcome to MILHIST
Hello and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you are interested, or you can add it directly to your user page by copying the following: WPMILHIST Announcements.
- Important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, writing contests, and article logistics.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a set of guidelines that cover article structure and content, template use, categorization, and many other issues of interest.
- If you're looking for something to work on, there are many articles that need attention, as well as a number of review alerts.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask any of the project coordinators or any other experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome, and we are looking forward to seeing you around! Anotherclown (talk) 11:24, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
New Reflinks tool
Hey Teri-- looks like there is a new and reliable Reflinks tool developed by User:Zhaofeng Li that you and the volunteers can use. I've tested it out in a few places and it seems to work quite well, and even has a few customization options that weren't previously available. To add it in, go to Special:MyPage/common.js and add in the following text:

I'll post these instructions at our project talk page for future reference. I, JethroBT drop me a line 23:28, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
How to block
Only admins can block, and I'm not one. The usual sequence of events is to give the vandal a sequence of increasingly severe warnings: uw-vandalism1, uw-vandalism2, uw-vandalism3, uw-vandalism4, and then to report them at WP:AIV. Sometimes, if several vandals are targeting a single page, it's better to request page protection at WP:RFPP instead. Philip Trueman (talk) 16:11, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Philip Trueman Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. TeriEmbrey (talk) 16:18, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
A new reference tool
Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:48, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
WikiProject X
Hello Teri! Per your request on Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Pilots I have prepared a draft on Wikipedia:GLAM/Pritzker/sandbox. Please let me know what you think. Cheers, Harej (talk) 19:33, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
@Harej: That is awesome! How could the archives for the project be worked in? TeriEmbrey (talk) 15:18, 24 July 2016 (UTC)
- I'm assuming you're referring to the completed tasks? My plan is to migrate the to-do list over to our Wikipedia Requests system which will make it easier to keep track of tasks as they are done. As for the tasks already completed, I could move them over and then immediately mark them as complete. The tool does not do this yet but there will be a counter to keep track of completed tasks. Does this sound workable? Harej (talk) 20:30, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
@Harej: I was referring to Wikipedia:GLAM/Pritzker/Archived_outcomes especially the Articles created as we sometimes need to refer back to this at PMML. Thanks so much for all your help! TeriEmbrey (talk) 20:35, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- It shouldn't be an issue to work those in; there's a bot that will generate a list of DYKs for a WikiProject and the completed articles can be documented in Wikipedia Requests as above (with a list of said completed articles generated). Harej (talk) 22:12, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
@Harej: If we can work those items in, then I think we are ready to move out of the sandbox. Thanks for all your help! TeriEmbrey (talk) 13:47, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi, TeriEmbrey, I noticed your are the Chief Librarian at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library. At commons, I made interwikilinks on different files and I was wondering if it would make sense to create a Category:Pritzker Military Museum & Library collections. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 15:12, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Lotje: @Rossna20: Thank you for creating the category for PMML. I will share with our interns who do a lot of the editing! TeriEmbrey (talk) 18:00, 9 May 2017 (UTC)
Cullum numbers
I've been poking away at the Cullum numbers this morning. It looks like I can get some basic minimum details extracted from the indexes of the volumes online - number, name, and class year. Anything more involves parsing the full-text entries and I'm nowhere near good enough to manage that. I can get reliable names up to 3384 (1890); after that there is a volume which gives names up to 4935 (1910), but it's so messily scanned that I'd have to almost retype it by hand.
This is where I've got to so far; the first thousand-odd names take us up to 1839. I'm currently skimming through checking for any missing/duplicate lines in the OCR and filling in the class years. When done I'll feed it into mix-and-match and see what it looks like... Andrew Gray (talk) 09:36, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- And here we go - catalogue now uploaded, with basic metadata & links out to digitised copies. Any matching you do on this tool will be transferred over to Wikidata when the property is set up (might take a week or two). Andrew Gray (talk) 14:03, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Andrew Gray: Many thanks! This is awesome! TeriEmbrey (talk) 18:27, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- The identifier is now up and running on Wikidata (P4026) so any matches on m&m will now go live, and we can start doing queries on it. A lot of the names are probably non-notable by our standards - routine military career and unremarkable civil life - so I've been marking these as "Not applicable to Wikidata"/"N/A" to avoid creating new items but still record that they've been sorted through. Quite a few people showing up with unexpected state-level political office (eg) which is very interesting, though, & I've been creating items for these where possible. Adding C-SPAN templates to external links
Hi there - As I guess you have noticed, I have been going through your list of people on the Pritzger Military Presents page and (when appropriate) adding a template that links to the given person's C-SPAN appearances. I know that you guys do some GLAM work; Maybe one of your suggestions when creating or sourcing or enhancing articles could be to make use of C-SPAN's links as well...? (BTW - Here is my statement on why I enjoy C-SPAN so much, I'm not an employee or anything.) Anyhow, food for thought. KConWiki (talk) 00:35, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- @KConWiki: PMML relies on interns to do a lot of this editing. I will ask the next group of interns to add the C-SPAN template, too. TeriEmbrey (talk) 17:48, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello TeriEmbrey, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!
- Backlog
As of 21 October 2018[update], there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.
- Community Wishlist Proposal
- There is currently an ongoing discussion regarding the drafting of a Community Wishlist Proposal for the purpose of requesting bug fixes and missing/useful features to be added to the New Page Feed and Curation Toolbar.
- Please join the conversation as we only have until 29 October to draft this proposal!
- Project updates
- ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
- There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.
- New scripts
- User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js(info) — A new script created for quickly placing copyvio-revdel on a page.
