Infoboxes
[edit]First off I really appreciate your feedback. I haven't brought this up during the discussion because it obfuscates the real question. Three of the no votes in that discussion are editors who have opposed infoboxes on biographies for over fifteen years. They show "strong pushback" on pretty much any question in regards to this topic. I stumbled into this topic a year or so ago and in that time there's been 10+ RFCs on articles to add infoboxes. Most of these discussions have ended inclusion, but almost all of them featured strong pushback from the same group of editors who are opposed to them. Last year I attempted to modify MOS:INFOBOX to help stop the battleground, but again... it was steadfastly opposed by the same group.
I'll support your RFC, but it's going to get same pushback, from the same editors, that everything related to this topic receives. So prepare yourself. Nemov (talk) 14:22, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for notifying me of this. I was not aware of that RfC and was interested to see how it evolved. I expect that there will be dissenters, but the RfC I will open only applies to already existing infoboxes, not on whether their merit. Though, it very well could turn into that debate, so thank you for letting me know. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 16:41, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Reviewing your post at VP, it might be a good idea to find another example instead of Gioachino Rossini since that article doesn't have an infobox. It might confuse editors. Nemov (talk) 18:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Good point- fixed then. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:41, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I added an example of that infobox with your suggestion. Feel free to modify it as you wish or if you don't think it's helpful you can remove. Thanks for your work on this! Nemov (talk) 19:12, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- I was curious if you're ready to revisit VP about the topic of links inside of infoboxes. Modifying policy would probably be helpful in that area. When you brought it up last time another editor started a separate discussion about infoboxes that kind of derailed things. That RFC is now closed. Nemov (talk) 14:52, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- (watching:) our friend is out for weeks to come (see announcement in the FAC for Stravinsky). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:37, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Nemov, Back now- I think the idea of returning to VP is good, but no one really seemed to care last time (or it just wasn't advertised properly). I'm not as involved with this issue anymore- I have some other articles I'd like to work on, which will take most of my Wikipedia time, though I will encourage and support you in any RfCs or discussions you open! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 16:42, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping. The issue last time is someone created a new RFC about infobox policy that kind of distracted the subject at VP so you withdrew it. I'm not going to move forward with changing the wording since I'm working on other stuff, but I appreciate your time. Thanks again! Nemov (talk) 15:21, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you today for Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption, "about a church meant to criticize Televangelists and to draw attention to how easy it is to start a church in the US. Since I think most editors will need some context—basically, a church is a physical (or digital) place consisting of organised events containing prayer that provides a cohesive and often creative expression of beliefs, community, stories or morals." - There is a discussion on Peter Grimes, 3 options. I hope that is neutral enough. Some pics around the place of the concert with the basses in April ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:43, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I realized today that the scope of the articles I've helped get to FA consist of Stravinsky and some ballets, and then a very specific British American TV host and his weird show... what a unique website this is! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 10:52, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Agree ;) - I combine Kafka with some Bach cantatas and Reger choral works - Kafka says it all. - The Grimes discussion seems to have reached a compromise, but did it have to be conducted as it was? - well, probably Kafka again. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:32, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- It is intriguing to see the very personal discussions people get into over extremely specific details that the average reader would not even consider. But, that's the nature of anything collaborative, and you'd rather have thoroughness than carelessness MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:34, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Exactly because I like thoroughness I'd go for Zürich, which, as was said for Zurich, nobody would misunderstand. The change by a brave editor could just have been accepted. Instead - as you will have seen - that editor was reverted a few times, and accused of a "little mind" and "bullying", and I put to shame for not bothering to read all these superfluous words. No, I'm rather proud of being able to ignore ignore ignore (but sometimes I doubt that it is the right approach). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:50, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- On the bicentenary of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, I remember our recent uplifting choral concert in pictures, on my user page and in my concerts (leading to the two at the church's article). The closest was in the paper. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- Today is the Feast of the Ascension for which Bach composed his oratorio, - perhaps watch a bit how the closing movement was performed in Bach's church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:58, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- Magdalena Hinterdobler is on the Main page today, together with an opera that reviewers deemed not interesting and too obscure for our general readers. The soprano thought differently, - listen and see. - Also on the Main page: a TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:30, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- I wonder what the standards for featuring productions seem to be. Obscure movies frequent DYK, yet "obscure" operas cannot? I understand that Zemlinsky might be unknown to the general reader, but enough context can still make something interesting. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 10:33, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree - I tried Der Traumgörge with the baritone, which was the rejected (they wanted a third Figaro within a few weeks, and insisted on that title in English, and I said better no), and then with the soprano. More than 1k looked at the opera which I think is interesting already by the unusual title. - The soprano is up for deletion, - strange standards. - But: today's story has a pic of a woman holding her cat, a DYK of 5 years ago - and the recent pics show 2 orange tip butterflies --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- yesterday's story remembered an oratorio world premiere I was in, conducted by the composer --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:16, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
- I liked seeing Erschallet, ihr Lieder on the Main page today, 310 years after the first performance! We sang it in 2000. Today's program was easier but also spirited. I found a nice video of "I will sing with the spirit", with nature photography, - enjoy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- As you saw, today's story mentions a concert I loved to hear and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- A personal favorite! I saw the requiem performed last year, and it's such an excellent experience… the offstage trumpets after the Dies Irae are such an amazing orchestration trick, and it's so effective! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:19, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Stravinsky is back at PR, having been completely overhauled with hopes for an FAC soon. Would appreciate any comments if you find time! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:31, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the invitation. I'm always busy but composers get preferred treatment ;) - What do you think about Haydn (talk)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks- hope to see you there MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:03, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- When Haydn was born Austria was a different thing ;) - I saw Schubert, but one after the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- You added to the Schubert discussion, but did you look at the article? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:49, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Could you also look at the Vivaldi discussion, about how to mention his works in the ibox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:16, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I have much to contribute to Vivaldi- an RfC on having links within IBs is necessary soon, but the lack of interest in an RfC both at the mos talk page and at the village pump make it seem futile at this point. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 12:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps we see things differently but my understanding of the general MoS discussion of "list of works" in infoboxes doesn't discredit them, no? If so, it could be simply returned, but not by me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:40, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- ... and where did it go - without reasoning - for Schumann? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:46, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that the MoS discussion yielded good results for our argument, and I do believe that those links are great for infoboxes (especially for artists), but the few dissents make any consensus there difficult. I'll open a more formal RfC soon. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 19:08, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- 29 May 1913: The Rite of Spring - today's story, actually something I saw at that place in a revival. - Do you remember the infobox discussion 100 years after the premiere, often mentioned in the arbcase? - Today a user who returned after several years said that nothing changed. Would you agree? I wouldn't ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:06, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- An interesting stance- I'm not quite sure what they're trying to get at. Perhaps trying to satirize the silliness of the debate? Still, the info box conversation has merit on both sides- I dont see it as an entirely pointless discussion. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:14, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- While I'm not sure, I believe it's a nice satire, lightning the mood. Made me smile. I have been on both sides of the discussion (s. Samuel Barber), understanding soon that an infobox makes access easier for some readers , and doesn't hurt others, so why not. I never understood why the matter became a personal feud which it was already when I met it. - Things were quiet by 2018 ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:10, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- last offer in May: photos of the river Rhine, and the adjacent Eltville rose garden, - high water and interesting weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:25, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Liszt GA review
[edit]Hi, thanks again for stepping in on the Liszt GA review, I really appreciate it. I have created a DYK nomination; I decided to go for the Lisztomania angle, predictable but hopefully eye-catching. Ligaturama (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Today's story is about the TFA, by sadly missed Vami_IV. In my support in 2018, I hoped to do justice to Schloss Köthen next - which I will begin today, finally, promised. Its Bachsaal was pictured to begin the year. For more related thoughts and music, look on my talk for 1 June. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:20, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
You nominated Stravinsky for FAC, I nominated Hinterdobler for GA - the soprano who was supposed to be deleted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:22, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- I remember seeing her at DYK- I'll see if I can take a look later today! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 15:23, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Keep in mind that it is the work of many who contributed sources to the rescue. Once all that effort was made, I thought we might try ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:32, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the review, - I'll look tomorrow. - Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today, - listen to the music, beginning with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:41, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story is about an extraordinary biography, Peter Demetz. - I uploaded a few more pics but leave the link, because there's a new one of Graham and his mother who liked it. - I mentioned your review of the soprano in the DYK nom of Daniela Kerck. Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- New pics of spectacular weather. Another interesting person: Alexander Lang. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story is about a tune used by Bach and Mozart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today I wanted to write a happy song story, on a friend's birthday, but instead we have the word of thunder on top of it, which would have been better on 2 June, this year's first Sunday after Trinity. The new lilypond - thanks to DanCherek - is quite impressive. As my 2 Jun story said: Bach was fired up. - Today's Main page is rich in music, also Franz Liszt and a conductor. Compare Liszt and Schumann: which difference do you see in the infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:20, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is great to see Liszt up there- @Ligaturama put in immense work into creating an excellent composer bio! For Schumann: while I would personally appreciate the signature and list of compositions, I accept that TR does not personally agree wwth including those parameters- if anything, I'm happy he even kept the box in the first place. At least we have some facts a glance to work with! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:18, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- I discussed this with Iadmc and won't repeat. I'm not happy about proudly advertising to have kept the box and removing its most valuable part, which the colleague marked as a MoS violation (Percy Grainger) although that FA article's author had included it in the first attempt, in 2013. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata (and why does it come before the third?) - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
- New pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Congratulations to Igor Stravinsky for FA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
- Today is a feast day for which Bach composed a chorale cantata in 1724 (and we had a DYK about it in 2012). Can't believe that Jodie Devos had to die, - don't miss her video from the Opéra-Comique at the end, - story to come. The weekend brought plenty of music sung and listened to, and some of it is reflected in the last two stories! + pics of good food with good company --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

DYK for Terror Train
[edit]On 2 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Terror Train, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that when producer Daniel Grodnik proposed the idea for Terror Train to his wife, she thought that it sounded terrible? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Terror Train. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Terror Train), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

FLC feedback request (Jul 4): List of SB19 live performances

[edit]On 8 July 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season 4, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that some critics described the fourth season of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver as comic relief from the activities of the Trump administration? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season 4. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver season 4), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). - Enjoy your time off! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:07, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:06, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:42, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the updates while I was away! It's so exciting to see Stravinsky finally at FA (scheduled for TFA in September) and looking forward to more in the future MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 16:39, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

August music

Today I have two "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, watch and listen, - I like today's especially because you see him at work, hear him talk about his work and the result of his work - rare! - Thank you for offering to review the hymn for FAC. I am a bit proccupied with those who died, - a third one will be today's topic before I can turn to expanding. I'd like BWV 101 to be a GA until 13 August when it will turn 300 ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:31, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
... and a third, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:34, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the offer to review my FAC! While you wait (I just pinged Airship with a progress report), would you perhaps be willing to look at BWV 101, if not for GA review then just for polishing, because it will be on OTD on 13 August? I'll look at the cantata for tomorrow ;) - As for infoboxes, I think the day following Stravinsky's TFA day would be good to start, referring to how well the feature is accepted, and perhaps a first step would be just to discuss the link to a composer's (or writer's or actor's) work as good and helpful, not ... well you'll remember the terms, Vivaldi, Rossini (as if there was an infobox it had already to be mentioned - really?), and many others. It's nothing my brain can grasp: why disconnect a creator from their creations?? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:57, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
If you click places, there's a cat ;) - not MyCat. And a rainbow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:43, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Gerda Arendt Some comments on BWV 101:
- "The prescribed readings for the Sunday were from the First Epistle to the Corinthians, different gifts, but one spirit (1 Corinthians 12:1–11), and from" - what's "different gifts, but one spirit" mean?
- Theology, and how far do go to explain theology in a cantata article, especially if that bit is irrelevant to the cantata, because it is not primarily based on the scripture readings but the chorale? This nutshell is given by the source (same Dürr), and perhaps you get a clue if you click on the link to the actual reading. --GA
- "the scoring, keys and time signatures are taken from Dürr" - who's Durr?
- introduced now as the author of the Bible on Bach's cantatas - I'll read again if he should have been introduced earlier. --GA
- In the movement 2 row, the strings column says '(or Vl)' - why?
- as the text explains, Bach had a good flute player at hand for the first performance, but for a later one he assigned the part to violin --GA
- "Perhaps therefore, Bach used it in different ways in almost all movements" - why perhaps? "Therefore" and "perhaps" are similar ideas to start sentences with but I'm not sure what they're saying here
- I can't just say "therefore" because we can't be sure - how can that be modified in English? There are chorale cantatas where the tune appears only in the first and last movement, - this one is unusual. --GA
- "are persistent three-not "sighing" motifs" - could just be me, but what does "three-not" mean?
- typo, sorry about the confusion --GA
- "The music is in siciliano rhythm" - there is no wikipedia page for "siciliano rhythm" and I'm not sure what that term means, which means that the average reader wouldn't understand it either
- there is an article, and I meant to link, but then forgot --GA
- I didn't look at sourcing, since I can't do a full GA review right now, but I hope my CE and these comments can help. Sorry about the delay- best of luck! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:52, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, will do what I can, the easy one is where I just typed too fast ("not" instead of "note)". - 750h+ promised a review. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Second round: comments above. This was very helpful! Will check CE. How do you like the cat? (not mine) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:58, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Third round: comments regarding the CE, which is great for catching things, but I have a few questions.
- overlinking - in classical music, when a piece has an article, we don't link the author, especially for well-known people who are known by last name alone, example: Mozart's Requiem, not Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem. Similarly: Luther's "Vater unser im Himmelreich". Similarly: if we just linked to a specific movement within the St Matthew Passion, why link to the Passion right afterwards?
- I don't think the duration is lead material, - I'll move it to the infobox. Compare BWV 1. Duration of these cantatas is around 20 minutes, no surprise here ;)
- I put the Gardiner ref behind the plague (speaking of the chorale), but not about the Latin source, because if my memory serves me Gardiner doesn't mention that. Actually the order of things was: there was the unreferenced sentence (which I probably wrote myself, 13 years ago), I first found the Gardiner ref, and then Hiemke. I could remove Gardiner now, but am uneasy listing him after a fact that he not supported.
- the item about the retained unchanged text has in your version "unchanged" twice and "librettist" twice, - can you please repair that? As it stands, I don't think it's an improvement. See above (melody): there are chorale cantatas where the text is retained only for the first and last movements, - this is unusual.
- I'll check for citation. That the instruments go with the voices is so normal that it may be difficult - Bach wrote four parts, the instruments are there, - they are not silent but play with the voices. The same in Bach's motets. The 19th century thought that they were sung without instruments. Wrong. For one of them Bach even prescribed that winds go with one choir and strings with the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:36, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- Good points on all- adjust anything in the ce as you see fit. The only one I disagree with is the ref in the middle of the sentence- having all refs after the punctuation looks much cleaner (imo) but do what you think is best for clear referencing. Amused by the lovely cat- gotta love a sleepy kitty! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 13:03, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, will delink the "duplicates" and remove Gardiner from in the middle of the sentence. It's the first time I heard that named less clean ;) - On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Help? My story today is about a woman, nominated for RD but needing support as I write this. A composer died whose article is long and mostly unreferenced. And some articles open for review, always. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:57, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Today is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display his portrait by Egon Schiele, music from Moses und Aron, and two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday ;) - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
Today a story about one of the people behind the peaceful revolution. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:47, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
Ach, lieben Christen, seid getrost, BWV 114, is one of the pieces in my topic of this year. - Saw the island with Stravinsky's grave across the water and thought of you. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:18, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- I do hope someday to visit a Stravinsky location - seeing the house in Ustilug, Ukraine, would be a dream, but certainly for a much later date. Very cool to see that! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:33, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- My story today features a pic I took from my position in the choir, I can also offer varied delightful music, some from Venice, also with pics I took, - note the rose in the clarinet ;) - I uploaded San Michele, and a sculpture of Wagner, - click on "places". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:02, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Look at those baroque trumpets! I've only gotten the chance to play one once in my life, but they're such interesting instruments, and the technique is wild. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 14:32, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- That ensemble was amazing! The keyboard player, who switched from organ to harpsichord by turning 90°, put a facsimile of Bach's handwriting on his music stand for the concert and played practically everything from memory. At the reception afterwards they confessed that they were always sceptical when lay choirs do the B minor, but we won their approval ;) - Our conductor had not felt ready but a couple of singers (soprano and bass) said they wouldn't want to wait ten more years (for the groups 50th anniversary) because they might not live that long, and wanted to do it once in life. He suddenly died a few years later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:59, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

"The Rite of Spring, The Firebird, Petrushka, L'Histoire du soldat, Threni... all iconic works by Igor Stravinsky, one of the most important composers of the 20th century. His approach to rhythm in The Rite revolutionized modernist music, influencing composers like Aaron Copland. Stravinsky was named one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century by Time, and the "Sacrificial Dance" from The Rite was included on the Voyager Golden Records." - Thank you today for Igor Stravinsky! - My user page never had a larger pic, and my talk page never a more colourful, matching the occasion. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:50, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Moving Last Week Tonight seasons from FL to GA/FA
[edit]Hello! Recently, there has been a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Featured lists#FLs for television seasons regarding how season articles should be classified, as they are currently split between FL and GA/FA. It seems the general consensus nowadays is that these pages should be considered as articles instead of lists. Given that, I've been working to identify pages that would make solid GAs; in my opinion, Last Week Tonight seasons 1, 2, and 3 would be a good fit in their current state, as they have solid prose sections and, as relatively new FLs, are of good quality all around.
As the original FLC nominator, I wanted to know if you would be interested in nominating this list for GAN (and, if you wanted, to aim for FAC down the line). I'd be happy to chip in where needed and I'm open to any feedback you have on this topic – just let me know what you think about it. RunningTiger123 (talk) 21:06, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- @RunningTiger123 Thanks for letting me know, I didn't know of this change. I'll be sure to nominate them for GA, once FL status is removed (I'm not sure how that process works, so I'll leave that to you all). Thank you! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:16, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Cool! Personally, I don't see any need to go through featured list removal – if it gets promoted to GA, that should just overwrite the FL status (maybe a FLRC would be opened to formally note it, but I somewhat doubt that). And also there's no big rush; the goal is to make article classification more consistent but it's not a particularly time-sensitive goal. RunningTiger123 (talk) 01:30, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
