by Aristophanes

"The Birds" (Ὄρνιθες Ornithes, Latin: Aves) is a comedy by Aristophanes, and was was first produced in 414 BCE. It has been acclaimed by modern critics as a perfectly realized fantasy remarkable for its mimicry of birds and for the gaiety of its songs.
As with all ancient Greek dramas, the interpretation may vary, given the condition of available manuscripts, the current study of ancient Greek language, and changes in the English language. As a result, varying English translations exist.
