Usage notes

[edit]

The partitive укро́пу is used only with the meaning "dill", not "Ukrainian".

In spite of the offensive usage of this word, some Ukrainians used укро́п as a self-deprecatory term for themselves in mockery towards Russians who used it on them. For example, a defunct nationalist political party named itself as UKROP, shortened from "Українське об'єднання патріотів" ("Ukrainian Association of Patriots").
