[edit]From the Proto-Semitic *šidṯ- (“six”), cognates with Hebrew שישה / שִׁשָּׁה (shishá), Classical Syriac ܫܬ݁ܳܐ (štāʾ), Ge'ez ስድስቱ (sədəstu), Ugaritic 𐎘𐎘𐎚 (ṯṯt), Arabic سِتْ (sit) and Akkadian 𒐋 (šeššet). Ultimately from a Proto-Afroasiatic root; compare to Egyptian sjsw, Central Atlas Tamazight ⵙⴹⵉⵙ (sḍis), and Hausa shidà.
