[edit]From Sanskrit शील (śīla, “morality”). Cognate with Lao ສິນ (sin), Northern Thai ᩈᩦ᩠ᩃ, Lü ᦉᦲᧃ (ṡiin), Shan သီႇလႃႉ (sìi lâ̰a), သိၼ် (sǐn).
