Micropython for Nucleo-68 WB55 #17024

Hi,

I am trying to run micro python in Nucleo-68 STM32WB55R6VG.

I followed the link https://docs.micropython.org/en/latest/develop/gettingstarted.html#building-the-stm32-port

I am able to generate the binary files(hex,dfu,bin,elf)

I flashed firmware.bin file to 0x08000000.. and reset the board i am not able to see the REPL python on serial COM port(STLINK virtual COM port )

to verify wether serial port is configured correctly or not i print message in my project and able to observe log which we have printed.

but we are not able to observe the REPL in the same console.. (COM port)

to cross verify i have build mboot binary too and flashed in 0x08000000 and firmware.bin into 0x08000000

but still not able to get REPL prompt

Request to please help on this

I deleted my post after looking up the mpconfigboard.h:

and saw ST-LINK was supposed to be connected to UART1. I would try a FTDI programmer on pins B6 and B7 to see if the REPL appears there. I have never tried to use the ST-LINK to load .py files or to observe what is happening on the device.

An expert is required!

I use Linux. Does the dev board say that it is connected to a specific COM port? In Ubuntu cd /dev and then ls. On Windows can you check in Device Manager?

with the above changes its not working.. parallely we have change UART1_TX (pin_B6) and UART1_RX (pin_B7) in STM32 cube IDE and able to run and we are able to see standard message which there was a standard logs.. when i see wb55 board rev no: MB1355C (which is mentioned on board)

Sorry my bad.. I am able to download hex file.. from the link you provided.. I tried to flash firmware.hex file into 0x08000000. Currently I used below configuration ***@***.*** I am able to get the log from the COM(which observed device manager) port after configuring USART1 for the port PB6 and PB7 as per the datasheet and user manual. Also I configured the switch SW1 and SW1(here please let me know if I missed anything) When I flashed hex file(latest) to 0x08000000 as mention in below link And I did hold reset button for 5 seccond within that time I did BOOT 0(SW2) I hold for 4-5 seccond and left reset button 1st an slare SW2.. Even after that I am facing same issue.. Is there anything else I need to do to achieve this? All of my experience is using the STM32F411 BlackPill dev board.. I use STM32Cube programmer and load the provided .hex images. You need an expert on the WB55 units.

Are you using cube programmer to program the hex file? Does it verify that it's written?

There might be some other fuses set wrong that are changing the boot mode. You might need to find what the default settings are for all of them and check, there's quite a few in different tabs on cube programmer.

After programming it, can you plug a second USB cable into the other port as well, does it come up as a USB com port?

Also, there is 1 observation we made that once after flashing micropython i opened the drive in file explorer.. i am able to see only 2 files.

The mass storage / flash drive that has those files, is that on the stlink USB port? If so then that's normal and expected I think.

Back to the second USB port, if that's coming up as a com port, try connecting with mpremote to that particular port, eg mpremote connect COM6 resume
It'll say it's connected to the port and ^] to exit.

Assuming it doesn't have the repl visible after that, try hitting ctrl-c or ctrl-d and see if anything happens.

You could also try a mass erase of the chip in cube programmer then program the hex again and see if that changes anything.

-> there are 2 USB port 1 port flashing via USB-STLink micro usb port (COM5 port ) and USB user port is not observing in device manager

Also, 1 more update.. we have tried to flash(default image) https://micropython.org/download/USBDONGLE_WB55/ as we have this USB Dongle.. controller too.. in this controller also i am facing same..
after flashing i am not able to see any device entry in device manager.. i felt this is weird.. i tried with changing switch settings which is available in controller..
both led D2 and D3 are in brick led status( neither they both are ON of OFF)

I am surprised that on Ubuntu it shows up as /dev/ttyACM0. When you unplug the device /dev/ttyACM0 disappears?
Have you been able to run Micropython on any device?

If not, I would suggest a device that has a lot more forum support, ie ESP32 or more common STM32 platforms.

I found root cause for this.. it’s the controller board issue.. i used other controller and I am able to get the micropython running..
I was just going through the example and running micropython with the link https://stm32python.gitlab.io/en/docs/Micropython/[Downloads](https://stm32python.gitlab.io/en/docs/Micropython/Downloads#firmwares)#firmwares

Here I am not able to download the firmware.. can you please provide other links if we have any? Or please share this as in this Start with MicroPython and the NUCLEO-WB55 they have mentioned to download firmware.

Good to hear you have a path forward with another board. Yes these wb55's can be bricked in a number of ways unfortunately.

If you want to try to recover the broken controller, try looking at a working one connected in cube programmer. Go to the tabs on the left side for option bytes and similar settings and take screenshots of everything, scrolling down to capture all settings.

Then compare these on the broken one.

There's a few settings in these lists that can block startup.

Also look up guides for upgrading the wireless bootloader and firmware, sometimes these need to be reflashed.

For micropython use you want the hci only firmware pack, not the full stack.
