He is now looking for servants - a servant and a maid for his wife. He hires Broukal, whom he used to serve himself, as his valet. But he is not driven by altruism. Broukal blackmails Skruzný and threatens to tell his wife about his past. The master of the house accepts Pepi as his maid.
