The duration of the film covers the period from 1981 to 2001. Two young talented cardiac surgeons Alexey Kovalev and German Ipatov are trying to come up with a design that will allow treating coronary heart disease without surgery. Ironically, both friends fall in love with the daughter of their mentor, Professor Solodovnikov. Alexey is a born scientist, ready to sacrifice a lot for the sake of science, including the tranquility of his loved ones and his personal life. Herman is a different kind of person: sober-minded and not so obsessed. Realizing that he is not as talented as Alexey, he decides to go the other way. See less
