But the manuscript is ultimately not published and its authors are hunted down, assassinated or muzzled by the Stalinist authorities. Despite the three million dead, half of the victims of the Holocaust, the memory of the events is erased from official history, until the breakup of the USSR when the manuscript is found and published by the daughter of Ilya Ehrenburg .
