Rename mailboxes
You can rename mailboxes in the Mail sidebar.
If you have an IMAP account, make sure your account is online before you rename any of the mailboxes; also make sure the new name isn’t used for another mailbox.
Select a mailbox in the Mail sidebar and click its name, or force click the mailbox in the sidebar. Type a new name for the mailbox.
Some mail servers may not accept certain characters, such as a forward slash (/).
If you use the Finder to rename mailboxes, the changes may not appear in Mail.
