Traction Pads...do they bum your trip?

Postby hawkins » Thu Aug 05, 2004 4:37 am

i ride pretty small surf (ankle-maybe waist high [slighlty overhead on a rare day]). I have a 6'2" Sashimi (Channel Islands surfboard) brand spanking new...i haven't put a traction pad on because i hear it can hurt your knees when paddling out. what's everybody's experience with traction pads?

trac pads are softer than the glass on your board...they are awesome..deff improve your surfing...and more comfortable to ride on.

yes you will get scrape in the begging but they are minor. they dont hurt all that bad and the salt water is good to heal them anyway. also you wont get the scrapes after you get more experienced b/c by then your knees will be used to it and it wont irritate them anymore.

nothing wrong either way. a couple of my boards have 'em, a couple don't. if you do put one on, make sure that the tail of the board is SQUEAKY CLEAN. if there's any wax, sand, etc. on when you apply the pad, it will peel off with in the 1st session or two.

one nice thing about a pad: if you're a newbie, it is a good way to tell whether your back foot is in the right place and not too far forward.

yer i reccomend that you get one, they help your feet to get the correct place on the board. they also give you that little extra grip when doing cutback etc.
hope the surf picks up for you dude,
Callum. :D:D:D:D:D:D
