Tom Holland is in talks to join the cast of Christopher Nolan‘s next film.

Should the deal go through, the “Spider-Man” actor would star alongside Matt Damon in the otherwise top-secret film. Nolan is writing and directing the movie, which Universal Pictures is releasing in theaters on July 17, 2026.

Universal had no comment about Holland’s casting.

The upcoming feature, which does not have a title, is expected to start shooting in early 2025, though Holland’s casting could prove challenging to production timelines. The actor, best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be busy with “Spider-Man 4” and potentially the next “Avengers” sequel over the next year and change, as first noted by the Hollywood Reporter. In between stints as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Holland appeared in the West End adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.

This project reunites Nolan with the studio that backed his hugely successful historical drama “Oppenheimer,” which won the Oscar for best picture (and six other statues) and grossed $975 million at the global box office. The three-hour, R-rated period piece was Nolan’s first time working with Universal, and in doing so, the director severed a nearly two-decade long creative partnership with Warner Bros., the company that has backed many of his biggest blockbusters including “The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception” and “Dunkirk.” Nolan reportedly went directly to Universal for his “Oppenheimer” follow-up rather than shopping the film around town.
