Learn how to write science fiction and fantasy for the current market. In this highly practical course participants explore how to achieve an ‘invisible’ storytelling voice; master dialogue, pacing and ‘info dumping’; and use handy techniques for building fantasy worlds. Each session apart from sessions one and six will have evaluation and feedback components as part of that week’s class.

Course Outcomes
At the completion of the course, participants should be able to:
- Understand the importance of such key elements of narrative ‘patterning’ as ‘invisibility’ and ‘voice of truth’ - fundamental aspects of all successful storytelling.
- Give and receive constructive feedback on their own work and the work of others that is informed and useful.
- Have a practical and useful insight into such editorial realities as ‘poison-tasting’, logic-testing, professional manuscript presentation and prevailing market strategies.
- Master narrative cues and dialogue cues to improve characterisation and pacing in narrative.
