Joseph Vilsmaier was born on 24 January 1939 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. He was a cinematographer and director, known for Stalingrad (1993), The Harmonists (1997) and Brother of Sleep (1995). He was married to Dana Vávrová and Hanna Vilsmaier. He died on 11 February 2020 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
