Daughter of screenwriter Emilio Cecchi.

She rewrote (with Ennio Flaiano) the screenplay for Roman Holiday (1953), that eventually won the Academy Award in 1954. Unfortunately the screenplay was not credited to them.

One of the most celebrated screenwriters of the post-WWII Italian cinema. She worked with some of the top directors, including Franco Zeffirelli and Michelangelo Antonioni.

She was educated in Rome and first worked as a journalist and as translator of English plays for the Italian stage.
