- In The early 1950s, McKennon created and hosted his own daily kids TV wraparound show, "Space Funnies"/"Capt. Jet", which was seen weekday mornings on KNXT (KCBS) TV Ch. 2 in Hollywood, California. "Space Funnies" was the first Los Angeles based kids show to air reruns of "The Little Rascals" and Laurel & Hardy Film Comedies.
- Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Warner McKennon of Hoquiam, Wash.; eight children: Dalene Lackaff of Woolwich, Maine, Barbara Porter and Linda Strozyk, both of Raymond, Wash., Gayle McKennon of Hyannis, Mass., Tamara Rock of South Bend, Wash., Wendy McKennon of North Bend, Ore., Jerald McKennon of Tualatin, Ore., and Steven McKennon of Newberg, Ore.; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
- Performed several Disney theme park voices, including the miner announcer at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Andrew Jackson at the original Hall of Presidents, and Benjamin Franklin at The American Adventure at Epcot.
- Narrated and/or performed on some of the best-selling record albums on the Disneyland Records label, starting with Uncle Remus in 1957 and ending with Bedknobs and Broomsticks in 1971. Narrated such albums as The Jungle Book, More Jungle Book, Mary Poppins, The Boatniks, Treasure Island, The Story of Robin Hood, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Performed voices on other albums including Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, The Wizard of Oz, The Cowardly Lion of Oz, The Tin Woodman of Oz, The Love Bug, and Swiss Family Robinson.
- The first actor to perform the voice of Scrooge McDuck. Uncle Scrooge made his audio debut in 1960 on the album "Donald Duck and His Friends" with McKennon as Scrooge. His on screen debut was in 1967's "Scrooge McDuck and Money" with the voice of Bill Thompson. Alan Young's career as Scrooge began on records, with the "Christmas Carol" album in 1975, then with TV's "DuckTales" in 1987, a role he continued until a few years before his passing in 2016.
