She has recorded numerous best-selling albums in German (for the German and Austrian market), Danish, Swedish, as well as her native Norwegian.

Has been on tour (Gitte Wencke Siw) together with Danish Gitte Hænning and Swedish Siw Malmkvist since 2004. Wencke sang the Norwegian version of Gitte's hit "Ich will 'nen Cowboy als Mann" (I want a cowboy for husband) in 1963.

Her 1970 hit "Er hat ein knallrotes Gummiboot" (He has a bright red rubber boat) became popular in Germany again during the Easy Listening wave in the 1990s.

The singing voice of Bianca in the German dub of 'The Rescuers', she is the last surviving cast member of that dub.

Children: Kim (b. 16 May 1971), Dan (b. 23 October 1973), and Fam (b. 17 April 1975) with her first husband Torben Friis-Møller; and Michael Jr. (b. 6 April 1982) with her second husband Michael Pleffgar.

On February 28, 2004 she received the Honorary Norwegian Spellemannspris for her achievements as an artist in a career that has spanned close to 50 years. Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) rarely hands out a lifetime-achievement award.

In August 2004, the same year she celebrated 50 years as an entertainer, she received a Knighthood, First Class of the Order of St. Olav (highest order in Norway).

At 16 Myhre had the largest fan club in the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland) and received as much as 1500 fan-letters daily. Still only a teenager, she decided she wanted to use her fan club for some good, and together with her fans she collected a huge sum of money that was used for building a new children's hospital in the Middle-Eastern city of Gaza.

Her greatest triumph on the stage was her interpretation of "Sweet Charity" from 1989 to 1990. This was a part she had wished to play since she was 16, and her version blew away both critics and audiences. Today it is considered one of the greatest performances in Norwegian musical history.

Her 1983 album "Vi lever" was the first record ever released on CD (compact disc) in Norway (lyrics by singer/songwriter Jan Eggum).

Despite being Norwegian she represented West-Germany in the 1968 Eurovision Song Contest, coming in at 6th place.

Released her first single in 1960 but her first really big hit was the song "Katta vår" from 1962.
