That Christmas begins with a familiar dilemma: It’s Christmas Eve and Santa must navigate treacherous weather while delivering his highly anticipated gifts.
We meet the benevolent legend, voiced here by Brian Cox, as he rides through a nasty winter storm of strong winds and low visibility. A terrible illness has left him with only one reindeer (Guz Khan) to pull the sleigh. Tensions between the two are so high that Santa, at one point, threatens to get a self-driving vehicle next winter. But while the odds are not in our hero’s favor, the happiness of children around the world — and especially those in the fictional English coastal town in which the narrative is set — depends on him overcoming them.

We just got confirmation of what we long suspected: the upcoming movie version of “Wicked” will close with “Defying Gravity,” which ended the first act on Broadway. We learned this from the listing of tracks on the soundtrack, which is available for pre-order. It is due to drop on the day that the movie is released: Nov. 22.
Expect Cynthia Erivo to leave audiences wanting more when she sings this show-stopper as her character, Elphaba, transforms into the Wicked Witch. But they’ll have to wait a full year to see the second half of the story with “Wicked Part Two,” set for release on Nov. 26, 2025. Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians”) directed both movies while Winnie Holzman, who reaped a Tony bid for the Broadway book, wrote the screenplay with Dana Fox (“Cruella”).

Jim Carter, who famously played Carson the master butler on Downton Abbey, clearly was taken by the leading artist giving a terrifically moving performance as Dolly Gallagher Levi upon the London Palladium stage. “That’s my wife,” he declared during the interval.
Indeed it was. Imelda Staunton was creating a gold-standard portrait of the meddlesome fixer at the heart of the landmark musical Hello, Dolly! created by Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart from Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker.
“It’s a brilliant production,” Carter told me.

“The problem is,” he continued, ”I can’t see anyone else on stage. I can only look at her. I’m sitting there going, ‘Wow!’”
Totally understandable, because the other 2,200 members of the audience were falling in love with her as well.

Exclusive: Imelda Staunton, swathed in glamorous red taffeta, descends a staircase on the London Palladium stage to lead a line of eager waiters in a chorus of “one of our favorite songs from way back when” from Hello, Dolly!
”Let’s reset,” a production assistant’s voice suddenly booms over the pubic address system.
We’re at a rehearsal run-through of a brand-spanking-new revival of the classic Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart musical adapted from Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, starring an outstanding Staunton as Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi, a widow who over the course of just one day emerges from grief to rediscover life again.
The show started previews last Saturday where it was rapturously received, but the creative team knows there’s still work to do before official opening night July 18.

Piglets, a new sitcom from the writers of Green Wing, is heading to Itvx soon. Here’s the trailer to prove it:
Green Wing is one of the most memorable comedies of the early 2000s. Following the trials and tribulations of the staff who populate East Hampton Hospital, the writing was frequently silly and surreal, and it featured star making turns from the likes of Tamsin Greig, Stephen Mangan and Michelle Gomez.
Underrated comedy Campus followed a similar scenario, this time in the fictional Kirke University, where Andy Nyman’s domineering don Jonty De Wolfe ruled with an iron fist. That series has also built up quite a fanbase, and rightly so. Now? There’s more for that fanbase to look forward to as well.
That’s because the same creative team has now created Piglets, which will be on Itvx soon. The synopsis reads as follows:

There’s a creative freedom to the horror anthology; they’re not tethered to one central narrative, style, tone, or even voice. Some anthology collections unite multiple filmmakers, each taking on a segment. Some employ a single director for cohesion. Even the framework in which the film weaves its tales varies, whether by conventional wraparound or a complete remix.
For the viewer, anthologies offer a grab bag of bite-sized horror treats; there’s no telling what kind of horror the next segment will bring. This week’s streaming picks highlight horror anthologies that run the gamut from classic anthology format to experimental, from lighthearted to bone-chilling.

Cult classic sitcom Green Wing has been resurrected as a podcast with the original cast and creative team.
Back in 2004, fresh from the success of sketch show Smack The Pony, writer Victoria Pile created Green Wing, a sitcom set in a hospital.
With an ensemble cast that included Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan – who would later reunite to star opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes – the comedy is helped enormously by committed clowning the cast, particularly Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez. The show ran for two series from 2004 to 2006 and, in a move more in common with American sitcoms, had a large pool of writers.
After the show ended, the same creative team made the terrific University comedy Campus in 2009, which despite only running for one series is well worth tracking down, especially for the tour de force performance from Andy Nyman as megalomaniacal monster and Vice Chancellor Jonty De Wolfe.

Piglets, a new series from the writers of Green Wing, is heading to Itvx next year, and the first details of the new comedy have just landed.
That’s because the same creative team have now created Piglets, which heads to Itvx next year. The first details...

Exclusive: The Crown’s Imelda Staunton will lead a revival of the classic Jerry Herman-Michael Stewart Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! into the Andrew Lloyd Webber-owned London Palladium next summer.
Echoing words in composer and lyricist Herman’s titular number, the show’s producer Michael Harrison observed that “it’s so nice to have Imelda back on stage where she belongs.”
Directed by Dominic Cooke, the production — with Staunton playing matchmaker Dolly Levi — will begin performances at the Palladium on July 6 for a strictly limited 10-week season ending September 14.
The Palladium, designed by Frank Matcham, opened on a site close to Oxford Circus in 1910, the year King Edward VII died. It was to become a favorite venue of the Royal Family, often hosting the annual Royal Variety Show in the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth II, great-granddaughter of Edward VII.

No medium understands the terrifying potential of TV quite like film does. That’s right: countless horror movies have paid homage to the spooky possibilities of their industry’s smaller screen little brother over the years. Movies like Poltergeist, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and The Ring all recognize that a television set is a powerful, scary totem.
A TV set is a device that families have placed in their living rooms for decades, passively welcoming in all manner of signals, blithely trusting that evil somehow won’t piggyback its way on them. Still, for much of television’s early years, there wasn’t a ton of great horror series to speak of (aside from the truly iconic like The Twilight Zone). That has all changed now.

Broadcast Signal Intrusion
New screenwriters hoping to break through in the horror genre have been invited to apply to FrightFest's sixth New Blood scheme, which sees the high profile horror festival partner with Giles Edwards of Queensbury Pictures to seek out and nurture new talent. The aim of the initiative, which previously gave rise to festival hit Broadcast Signal Intrusion, is to take promising first drafts through to the production stage.
The eight applicants with the most promising drafts will be invited to London to be mentored as a group by industry experts including Andy Nyman, Jennifer Sheridan and Toby Poser.
"Queensbury Pictures is proud to be back around the table with a formidable line-up of mentors for what will be the 6th New Blood session, rousing and inspiring a fresh crop of as-yet-undiscovered, earth-trembling genre talent," said Edwards.
More details about New Blood are available here....

National Geographic's A Small Light continues tonight with another two episodes.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at what's ahead, and it looks like things are going from bad to worse for Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber).
In the clip, we see Miep (Bel Powley) speak to Otto about recent events and how things might change very soon.
Otto is worried about the Nsb officer snooping around, but Miep tries to calm him down.
With his back pushed against the wall, Otto ponders what will happen next.
It's an excellent look at the series and how Miep tries to help Otto by making him realize that he's a wonderful father and has made the right decisions.
Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to help hide his...

Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Sherlock producer Hartswood Films has won the rights to adapt Cold War magic thriller The Warlock Effect into a TV series.
The debut novel, about a magician who flees Nazi Germany and is lured into espionage, was written by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, creators of the Ghost Stories theatre production.
Hartswood optioned The Warlock Effect from publisher Hodder & Stoughton, fending off rival bids from seven other production companies.
The book, released on Thursday, centers on Ludvik Weinschenk, a boy who escapes tyranny in Germany to become the most famous magician in 1950s Britain under the stage name Louis Warlock.
His talent for deception attracts the attention of the British secret service and he is thrown into the world of espionage on a mission across Europe.

National Geographic has released the trailer from the upcoming eight-part limited series ‘A Small Light’. The powerful series, produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios, will stream on Disney+ in the U.K. on 2 May.
Based on an inspiring true story, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) was young, carefree and opinionated — at a time when opinions got you killed ― when Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber) asked her to help hide his family from the Nazis during WWII. Without hesitation, Miep agreed. For the next two years, she and her daring and devoted husband, Jan (Joe Cole), with several other everyday heroes, watched over the Frank, van Pels and Pfeffer families hiding in the secret annexe.
Told with a modern sensibility, the series shakes the cobwebs of history and makes Miep’s story feel relevant, forcing audiences to ask themselves what they would have done in Miep’s shoes; and in modern times,...

Writers know better than most how taking historical figures and dropping them into a world of fictional characters can sometimes run the risk of overwhelming the story at hand. The plot at the center of "Peaky Blinders," for instance, shares several parallels and intersections with actual historical events taking place during the time period that creator Steven Knight chose to cover -- specifically set during the moment in time between both World Wars in early 1900s Birmingham, England. While audiences have gravitated towards the drama of Tommy Shelby leading the Peaky Blinders from the local horse-racing scene in Small Heath to the seat of power at the center of the entire British empire, Knight wrote his scripts in such a way that he could easily integrate several historical figures into the action as well.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Capture Series 2 Episodes 1-4.
The Capture series two, episode four ends on a cliffhanger that could have come straight from an episode of The Twilight Zone – a man answers the telephone in his hotel room and hears his own voice speaking back at him. It’s time they met face to face, other-him says, then there’s a ring at the door. He walks over and there on the video intercom is… him, his own face looking up at him and waiting to be buzzed inside.
What are we talking? Hallucination? Apparition? Clone? No, The Capture isn’t a fantasy or sci-fi, it’s a political thriller set (more or less) in the real world. This is technology, sufficiently advanced that, as Arthur C. Clarke might say, it’s indistinguishable from magic.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Capture series one.
The Capture‘s first series saw Lance Corporal Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) go full circle. In episode one, he was released from prison – acquitted for a crime he had, in fact, committed – and then in episode six, he was imprisoned for a crime of which he was innocent. In between, the BBC surveillance thriller introduced viewers to a world in which you literally can’t believe your eyes. As Dci Rachel Carey (Strike‘s Holliday Grainger) discovered, the intelligence services were using ultra-sophisticated deepfake technology to conjure up court-admissible ‘evidence’ to ensure the criminal conviction of anybody they wanted convicted.
The situation turned out to be even more morally murky when the CIA whistle blower threatening to go public with the practice of CCTV footage “correction” turned out to be a double (triple?) agent planted by the CIA so that some elements...

Sneaky, menacing and funny are descriptions that come up more than once in Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen, but not one of the three words quite does justice to this irresistibly pitch-black comedy, opening tonight at the Golden Theatre on Broadway.
Then again, justice has very little to do with what goes on in this deliciously wicked tale of bloodstained propriety and revenge, state-sanctioned or otherwise. Set mostly in a Lancashire pub in the mid-1960s during the last days of England’s legal capital punishment, the Olivier Award-winning Hangmen resurrects not only an era of U.K. history but the playwright’s early fascination with very dark impulses.
And no one does dark impulses with as much comedic flare – yes, it’s sneaky, menacing and funny – as McDonagh at full tilt.
Directed with deadly assurance by Matthew Dunster,...

In season one, Viscount Bridgerton was less hero than impediment. The eldest Bridgerton son, he assumed responsibility for the matches of his younger siblings Daphne and Colin, and spent the season throwing his weight around – sometimes literally in the case of the punch-up and dual with Daphne’s suitor Simon. Anthony attempted to control everybody else’s marriage responsibilities while refusing to face up to his own. His mistress Siena Rosso eventually made the decision for him, recognising that an opera singer with her past would never be found respectable enough to become a society Viscountess. Siena moved on, and urged Anthony to do the same.
In season two, Anthony’s search for a wife is centre-stage, making actor Jonathan the romantic lead. It’s not the first time the actor has told a love story in his established stage and screen career, which started in his childhood with the Royal Shakespeare Company,...

Hangmen, Martin McDonagh’s Olivier Award-winning comedy that became (seemingly) an early casualty of Broadway’s 2020 Covid shutdown, has gotten a reprieve: The play will begin previews at Broadway’s Golden Theatre on Friday, April 8, with an opening night set for Thursday, April 21.
Co-starring in the limited 10-week engagement will be Alfie Allen, best known to American audiences for his indelible Game of Thrones portrayal of Theon “Reek” Greyjoy, and David Threlfall, returning to Broadway for the first time in 25 years.
The Royal Court Theatre/Atlantic Theater Company production of Hangmen will be directed by Matthew Dunster, who directed the pre-shutdown Broadway staging that co-starred Downton Abbey‘s Dan Stevens and Game of Thrones‘ Mark Addy as Harry (now to be played by Threlfall).

When will shady organisations learn that if they’re going to breed a squadron of teen girl super soldiers, their range of genetic enhancements needs to include an off switch? Yes, teenagers can fly under the assassin radar, but rebellion is built in. Brainwashed or not, at some point your murder-optimised darling will turn on you and when she does, you’ll rue the day you made her quite such an efficient killing machine.
Hanna, Utrax, the forest, Erik and Marissa
Hanna (Esme Creed-Miles), the sole surviving member of the 2003 Utrax generation of wolf-dna-enhanced babies, is the most efficient killing machine of all. She has every genetic improvement plus a lifetime of survival and combat training from former military man Erik Heller (Joel Kinnaman). He was a Utrax recruiter who developed qualms about his job convincing vulnerable women to sign over their unborn babies for experimentation by the CIA.

The cost is in addition to the $7.99 monthly subscription fee (unless you’ve already signed up for a free Disney+ subscription for up to six months). Disney+ Premier Access can be a little confusing if you’re new to the interface,...
