Charlotte Roche discovered her weakness for acting at high school. She
appeared in numerous plays in school theater among other things
Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream", which she enriched with an
anti-capitalistic belly dancing. At this time Charlotte became
fascinated with Rock 'n' Roll and started the garage-punk-band The
Dubinskis (UK) with three of her girl friends. Five years later, in
spring 1998, Charlotte applied to the not so well known music channel
VIVA II in Germany. Thousands of young people tried to get a job there
but at last the black haired girl with the cheeky smile was chosen.
Soon the first name that people associated with VIVA II was Charlotte
Roche. All feuilletons hailed her as pop icon, because of her
unconventional interview style exceeding the common level. Harald
Schmidt celebrated her as "Queen of German Pop Television" and to crown
it all Charlotte was nominated for the Adolf Grimme Preis in May 2001.
In August 2001 she took a break for some months and at the end of the
year changed to music channel VIVA. In May 2002 Charlotte received the
Bayrischen Fernsehpreis. Now she is hosting the cult music program
"Fast Forward" on VIVA and "Charlotte Meets..." on Pro7.
