Auf den Filmtagen Köln war „Alter weißer Mann“ einer der Titel, über die gesprochen wurde. Die neue Komödie von Simon Verhoeven, der mit „Willkommen bei den Hartmanns“ und „Nightlife“ bereits zweimal den erfolgreichsten deutschen Film des jeweiligen Kinojahres abgeliefert hat, folgt nicht einmal ein Jahr nach Verhoevens letzter Regiearbeit, „Girl You Know It’s True“, und ist ein ebenso beschwingter wie hintergründiger Spaß über die Auswüchse politischer Korrektheit. Wer bei den Filmtagen Köln war, hat es bereits gesehen: Riesengroß guckte Jan Josef Liefers als „Heinz“ auf die Messebesucher vom Teaserplakat zu „Alter weißer Mann“ herab. Jetzt wurde es offiziell veröffentlicht. Außerdem gibt es erste Szenenbilder der neuen Gesellschaftskomödie von Simon Verhoeven, in der besagter Heinz an einem wichtigen Punkt in seiner Karriere steht und nicht nur im Job, sondern auch im Privatleben beweisen muss, kein alter weißer Mann zu sein.

Zum Ensemble von „Alter weißer Mann“ gehören Jan Josef Liefers, Nadja Uhl, Friedrich von Thun, Michael Maertens, Meltem Kaptan, Elyas M’Barek, Yun Huang, Denise M’Baye sowie die Nachwuchsdarsteller Momo Beier und Juri Sam Winkler. Produzenten sind Quirin Berg und Max Wiedemann sowie Kirstin Winkler.

Germany network Rtl Deutschland has struck a long-term strategic deal with Wiedemann & Berg Film and the producer’s parent, Leonine Studios.

The multi-year agreement covers free TV and streaming, and means Rtl Deutschland will have exclusive rights to German theatrical releases from the two companies, which produced or co-produced the country’s most successful film in each year between 2020 and 2023.

The pact includes the new comedy Alter Weisser Mann from director Simon Verhoeven starring Jan Josef Liefers, Nadja Uhl, Friedrich von Thun, Michael Maertens, Meltem Kaptan and Elyas M’Barek. It began shooting this month.

The film follows family man Heinz Hellmich, who tries show is ‘wokest’ side and prove he is not an ‘old white man’ to land the job he has longed for. Inviting his boss and colleagues to a dinner party, his family politically correct facade begins to crumble, causing chaos among the guests.

Studiocanal is launching sales on Tim Trachte’s live-action adaptation of classic German animated children’s show Benjamin The Elephant at Efm.

Involving a taxi driver and a brutal murder, Özge is this killer's next target. Cold Hell aka Die Hölle will show on Shudder in mid-March. The film stars: Violetta Schurawlow (Head Full of Honey), Sammy Sheik (American Sniper) and Friedrich von Thun (Schindler's List). Three UK features among first 15 films selected for Berlin’s Generations programme.Scroll down for list

The 2017 Berlin Film Festival has revealed the first raft of titles selected for its Generations sidebar, which features youth and children’s films.

Michael Winterbottom’s music documentary On The Road [pictured], which follows the band Wolf Alice on tour, will open the Generation 14plus programme this year.

Also playing in that strand will be Dash Shaw’s My Entire High School Sinking Into The Sea, which features the voices of Jason Schwartzman, Maya Rudolph, Lena Dunham and Susan Sarandon.

Further UK features playing in 14plus include the world premieres of Carol Salter’s Almost Heaven and Rafael Kapelinski’s Butterfly Kiss.

Titles selected for the separate GenerationKplus strand include the European premiere of Kriv Stenders’s Australian family feature Red Dog: True Blue.

The 2017 Berlin Film Festival takes place February 9-19.
