An alumnus of the Sundance Screenwriting Lab, Lance Weiler is recognized as a pioneer in mixing storytelling and technology. Wired magazine named him "one of 25 people helping to reinvent entertainment and change the face of Hollywood." In 1998, his first feature The Last Broadcast which he co-directed, co-wrote became the first all-digital release of a motion picture. Made for $900 it went on to gross over 4.5 million via self-distribution efforts. His second feature entitled Head Trauma had its world premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival prior to a national theatrical release. From 2009 to 2011 Lance co-created, produced and occasionally directed 42 episodes of Radar a web series for Bablegum. He was nominated for an International Emmy in digital fiction for his work on Collapsus: The Energy Risk Conspiracy. His award-winning collaboration with David Cronenberg entitled, Body/Mind/Change premiered at the TIFF Lightbox and his most recent project Frankenstein AI: a monster made by many was an official selection of the Sundance and IDFA Film Festivals. In 2018, he released a work-in-progress version of his latest project entitled Where There's Smoke which mixes film, theatre and gaming. In addition, he is a founding member and director of the Columbia University School of the Arts' Digital Storytelling Lab. He's written for publications such as Quartz, GOOD Magazine, and IndieWire. From 2011 to 2015 he wrote a column for Filmmaker Magazine that explored new forms and functions of storytelling entitled, "Culture Hacker."
