Guy DeFazio attended the University of Miami, Coral Gables, pursuing his long-standing passions for engineering, technology, and the arts. Graduating with honors in 1989, he began his Hollywood career first as a staff engineer at the former Lion Share Studios, and later as the founder and managing director of Guy DeFazio Engineering, providing independent technical and creative services to a wide range of a clients throughout the music, film, television, and advertising industries. His award-winning studio work has involved facility operations, facility design, music production and mixing, systems design, and technical consulting.
In 1992, recruited by the UCLA Department of Entertainment Studies to design and teach the first studio automation course of its kind, his Hollywood career has involved work both behind-the-scenes and at the forefront of the industry. From 1996 to 1999, serving as advisory board member for UCLA's Entertainment Studies Program, he contributed ongoing direction to the development, planning, and integration of a wide range of course work for their world-renowned program. Throughout his early career, Guy DeFazio also continued to author and co-author numerous technical reviews and feature articles on topics ranging from digital technology to studio tax and labor laws.
In 2002, following the devastating events of September 11th, he went on to establish and lead the first trans-Atlantic arts organization of its kind (www.centerforjazzarts.org), responsible for the creation of multiple, new, bridge-building programs focused on the unparalleled history of diversity, tolerance, and shared national heritage at the heart of American popular culture. Working closely with numerous institutions throughout the United States and Europe, as well as with each of the U.S. Embassies in Berlin, Paris, and London, his community-building work has touched the lives of thousands.
