Sonia Agarwal is an actress who works in the Kollywood industry. She grew up in a Punjabi family in Chandigarh.
She was offered a role in a Zee TV serial during her school days. Later on, Agarwal made her acting debut with Nee Premakai (2002), a romantic Telugu film.
She followed it up with Chandu (2002), a romantic Kannada drama, alongside actor Sudeep.
Agarwal went on to play roles in movies like Kaadhal Konden (2003), a Tamil psychological thriller that featured actors Dhanush and Sudip; 7/G Rainbow Colony (2004), a romantic drama featuring actor Ravi Krishna; and Pudhu Pettai (2006), a Tamil crime action drama that featured actors Sneha and Dhanush.
In 2006, Agarwal married director K. Selvaraghavan and took a break from the acting industry.
After her divorce in 2010, Agarwal kickstarted her acting career with Vaanam (2011), a Tamil action drama that featured actors Bharath Srinivasan, Silambarasan Rajendar, Anushka Shetty, etc. This movie was a remake of the Telugu-hit film Vedam (2010) and enjoyed a 100-day box office run.
As her career progressed, Agarwal went on to act in movies like Grihanathan (2012), a Malayalam family drama; Ayogya (2019), a Tamil action drama; and Thadam (2019), a Tamil crime thriller drama. The latter became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2019 in Tamil Nadu.
Besides the cinema industry, Agarwal has acted in TV soap operas like Naanal (2008-09), Malli (2013-14), and Fall (2022), a Tamil thriller drama.
