Deadline reports that Matthew Gray Gubler is returning to television, but unfortunately, it’s not the long-awaited return to Criminal Minds: Evolution that fans have wanted. Instead, Gubler is set to play the great-grandson of Albert Einstein in a new crime procedural for CBS, which is going by the working title of Einstein.
The series is from Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk, best known for Monk. It will be a drama with comedic undertones. Matthew Gray Gubler plays Lew Einstein, the brilliant but directionless great-grandson of the famed theoretical physicist. He’s a popular professor at Princeton, when he actually shows up, but the burden of his genius and famous name frequently weigh on him. When his bad-boy antics find him running afoul of the law, he’s forced to help a local detective solve her most puzzling cases, which finally gives his life some direction and purpose. You know what they say: Opposites attract. We’ll have to see if such is the case with Luke Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) and a new character joining Criminal Minds: Evolution for its upcoming 18th season (the third of the revival). Aimee Garcia will appear in multiple episodes, Deadline reports. The Lucifer star will be playing Dr. Julia Ochoa. She is one of the country’s leading neuropsychiatrists and is helping a high-profile patient as he recovers from an injury-induced brain trauma. She comes at the situation in a gentle way, which will clash with Luke’s more aggressive one. With Garcia in multiple episodes, we can’t help but wonder if sparks could fly between Luke and Julia and if that might mean some jealousy from Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness); their day may not have gone well but it doesn’t seem like the door is completely shut on a potential relationship.

Exclusive: Aimee Garcia has joined Criminal Minds: Evolution for the Paramount+ series’ third season.
In a multiple-episode arc, Garcia will portray Dr. Julia Ochoa, one of the country’s leading neuropsychiatrists who is assigned to help a high-profile patient recover from his injury-induced brain trauma. She clashes with Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) who, by contrast, believes in a more aggressive approach than her gentle approach.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is an expansion of the original CBS series which ran from 2005-2020. In the current season, the FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers comes up against an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world opens back up and the network goes operational, the team must hunt them down, one murder at a time.
The series stars Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka with Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster.

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 may be over, but we’re already looking forward to what happens next. Even though it’s still early, we do know the show will be back for season 3. Plus, the season 2 finale already set up a possible arc that will continue to involve Elias Voit (Zach Gilford).
In the season 2 finale, Voit had started his prison sentence, where he for some reason had requested to be put into the general population. In the final scene, he was attacked while doing laundry. Almost immediately, based on his previous behavior and how diabolical he could be, there were suspicions that he planned this himself. There is no doubt Voit is prepared to do whatever it takes to get out of prison as soon as possible.

Note: This story contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Criminal Minds: Evolution.”
Whether you consider it Season 2 or Season 17, “Criminal Minds: Evolution” ended with quite the explosion in Thursday’s finale. While fans were concerned for Paget Brewster’s Prentiss going into Episode 10, it was Zach Gilford’s serial killer Voit (aka Sicarius) who ultimately met his end — or did he?
Since the sequel series has already been renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+, showrunner Erica Messer broke down the twist-filled finale with TheWrap and gave a concrete answer about that violent cliffhanger.
“It was a journey to get here, because in some ways it really started at last season’s finale when Doug Bailey (Nicholas D’Agosto) was killed by Elias Voit, seemingly because Voit used this code word ‘Gold Star,’ which got Bailey to walk in all alone, unarmed, into the lion’s den,” she explained. “The journey to...

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 (also known as Criminal Minds season 17) has taken fans on a wild journey as TV’s favorite profilers try to figure out and eradicate the threat of “Gold Star.”
Throughout most of season two, the storyline focused on the characters Jade (Liana Liberato) and Damien (David Garelik) as they attempted to seek revenge on those who had abused them and were connected to Stuart House. This group included Jill Gideon (Felicity Huffman), the wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), who Damien abducted in episode eight before he surrendered and signaled for Jade to kill him so he wouldn’t be locked up again.
The penultimate episode of Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 was even more of a rollercoaster of unexpected plot twists. We discovered that neither Jade nor Damien were the actual threats. They were just members...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 finale “Save the Children.”] Criminal Minds: Evolution ends its 17th season with a question mark about a villain’s future, but thanks to a chat with showrunner Erica Messer, we do have some answers about that. In the finale, Prentiss (Paget Brewster) is abducted (again), but Gold Stars Jade (Liana Liberto) and Pete (Alex Saxon); the latter is Doug Bailey’s (Nicholas D’Agosto) brother, and he thinks the Bau killed him. But once they can prove it was Voit (Zach Gilford), he surrenders. In the end, the team celebrates at Garcia’s (Kirsten Vangsness). Meanwhile, in prison, Voit is attacked. Below, Messer breaks down that finale and teases what’s to come in Season 18. Voit wanted to be part of gen pop, and it seems like he could have set that whole thing up at the end to orchestrate something, ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 Episode 9 “Stars & Stripes.”] Uh-oh, the status of multiple members of the Bau is unknown after the team’s move against the Gold Stars, and that can only mean one thing: We should be very worried heading into the Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 finale. In the aftermath of Jade (Liana Liberato) killing Damien, she meets up with another Gold Star, Dana (Nikko Austen Smith), and leaves an officer without his eyes to give the Bau a message. The two then go down to one of Voit’s (Zach Gilford) bunker, where a board all about the Bau is set up. Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness), meanwhile, finds a connection between the Stuart House doctors and the sheriff deputies who have been murdered: All were paid through an account linked to Aida Limited, a private security company; there have been accusations of criminal misconduct against the CEO, Frank Church (Tuc...

But first, Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and Jill (Felicity Huffman) have a lot to talk about—or rather, yell at each other. As the two fight in and out of his office (with a lot of door slamming), the rest of the team, of course, discusses their complicated relationship. Garcia’s (Kirsten Vangsness) surprised when Prentiss (Paget Brewster) reveals she thinks they were more than friends. JJ (A.J. Cook) notes that back when the white paper was written, Jill had to stay in the shadows while Rossi and Jason took credit. And then things get really tense when Jill blames Rossi for Jason’s death. Jill then ...

Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and Luke Alvez’s (Adam Rodriguez) date may not have worked out, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Criminal Minds: Evolution is done with the possibility of a romance there. In fact, serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) remarked on the “vibe” between them and commented about Garcia and Tyler Green (Ryan-James Hatanaka) and her having a thing that drove Luke crazy in the latest episode. “We hang out together a lot” in Season 17, Vangsness told TV Insider ahead of the premiere of Garcia and Alvez. “I keep saying the writers write things and we do what they say, and then they go like, ‘People talk about it. Let’s just have them have a date. And then can it be done?’ And we’re like, ‘Sure, it can be done.’ And then we do things and then you guys ask questions like that,” she laughed.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 Episode 5 “Conspiracy vs. Theory.”] What happens when the Bau must work with serial killer Voit (Zach Gilford) not only out of his cell and in their offices but also in the field? Nothing good, of course. When Voit is first brought to the Bau’s offices, Rossi (Joe Mantegna) remains in his office, and the killer, of course, calls him out. “It’s been a long time since my last confession. I’d really like to talk to you,” he says. Prentiss (Paget Brewster) stops Rossi from stepping out, noting that he’s been talking to himself. It’s how he profiles, he argues. Voit, meanwhile, dares to sit at Reid’s desk as they discuss him reaching out to Damien (David Garelic), part of Gold Star. Part of that includes some computer stuff Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) must do, which means Voit spends a bit of...

Tompkins) told the cops she attacked him, not the three men who did; JJ (A.J. Lots of people believe that if there's no romantic storyline in a series then it’s a waste. Well, we are not sure about that, but still, a good old love drama makes the shoe so much more entertaining. And in this case, we can even say that the more the merrier works perfectly.
Love stories are part of the shows which are so far from being a romcom or don’t even have a romantic ground, but are, for example, hardcore crime or legal dramas. But just like in real life, you never know when the cupid finds you.

The show returned in late 2022 with most of the original cast (minus fan favorite Matthew Gray Gubler). But the new season came with a slightly different twist. Rather than the former case-of-the-week approach, Criminal Minds: Evolution focused on a single, disturbing case...

The Bau is back in action, but one familiar member of the team is still Mia. Matthew Gray Gubler, who played Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds for 15 seasons, won’t appear in season 2 of Criminal Minds: Evolution, which premieres June 6 on Paramount+.

Criminal Minds wrapped up its decade-plus run on CBS in early 2020. But in 2022, the show was rebooted for a 16th season, dubbed Criminal Minds: Evolution. The 10-episode, streaming-only season featured the team – including David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) – working a complex case involving a serial killer named Elias Voit (Zach Gilford).
While Criminal Minds: Evolution brought back most of the show’s core cast, a few familiar faces were missing.

Emily Prentiss will be found channeling a bit of her “clandestine past” when Paramount+’s Criminal Minds: Evolution uncorks its new season.
Premiering Thursday, June 6, with the first two of 10 episodes, the new season picks up as the team (played by Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez and Aisha Tyler) investigates the mystery of Gold Star. As that conspiracy unfolds, the Bau will be met with an unexpected complication when Elias Voit (promoted series regular Zach Gilford) negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody — in the Bau’s own backyard!

When Criminal Minds continued with Evolution two years after the original run ended after 15 seasons, it did so with nearly every actor from the series finale: Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), A.J. Cook (Jennifer “J.J.” Jareau), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis), Adam Rodriguez (Luke Alvez), and Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss). Scheduling didn’t work for Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney to reprise their roles as Dr. Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons. But will that change in Season 17? There has been at least one sign pointing to a possible return from Gubler: a photo of Spencer Reid’s nameplate on a desk in a photo shared on Mantegna’s Instagram story (see below). So TV Insider turned to showrunner Erica Messer for answers. As it turns out, unfortunately, we will not be seeing Gubler this season. Joe Mantegna/Instagram “It never worked out for Season 16 and...

Paramount has rebooted Criminal Minds, and starting in November 2022, we were once again immersed in the story of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) agents as they grappled with criminal minds and personal lives. Now, the story has taken an even darker turn, it has been released in a streaming format rather than the traditional TV broadcast one, and the show itself has been subtitled as Evolution. And before we knew it, a new season was already in production (the second season of Evolution and the seventeenth since Criminal Minds premiered on CBS in 2005).

Josh Stewart, who has played Will Lamontagne Jr. since Season 2, will be leaving the show, while many are sure that everyone's favorite Spencer Reid will be back, as Matthew Gray Gubler's schedule has finally been cleared, and the...

The Bau is getting an assist from a Desperate Housewives alum.
TVLine reports that Felicity Huffman has closed a deal to guest star during Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2, and her character has ties to the original series.
Huffman is playing Dr. Jill Gideon, described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who winds up helping the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.”
If that surname sounds familiar, it’s because she’s the wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), so she has plenty of ties to the team.
Jill isn’t too fond of getting involved with the Bau because of her past, which concludes a “complicated history” with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna).
However, her expertise is needed because the team is struggling to crack open the Gold Star mystery.

Variety reports that the “Desperate Housewives” actress is joining the Season 2 cast of Paramount+’s serialized revival of the long-running CBS crime procedural.

Felicity Huffman has booked a promising role in an upcoming major series: The actress will be a guest star in the next season of Paramount+’s Criminal Minds spinoff Evolution, playing a doctor with deep connections to other lead characters in the franchise.
The role marks the first major network new series opportunity for the Emmy-winning former Desperate Housewives star since her role in a college admissions scandal broke in 2019 (Huffman was previously set to star in a spinoff of The Good Doctor, but last year ABC passed on making it).
