Maria Carlota Bruno has been working in various roles at VideoFilmes, the independent Brazilian production company created by Walter Salles and João Moreira Salles, since 1989. In 2011, she began her role as Executive Producer and has since overseen a wide range of films, including "Últimas Conversas," the last documentary by Eduardo Coutinho, "Paulina," by Santiago Mitre, and "Jia Zhang-ke, A Guy from Fenyang," a documentary by Walter Salles that was shown at the 2015 Berlinale. In 2016, she produced and commercially released João Moreira Salles' documentary "In the Intense Now," which was screened at the 2017 Berlinale and won several awards. She was the executive producer of "Unremember," by Flavia Castro, shown in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival. She co-produced the documentary "I Owe You a Letter About Brazil," by Carol Benjamin. She is an associate producer of the Peruvian film "Song Without a Name," by Melina León, shown in the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival, and the documentary "Amazonia, the New Minamata?" by Jorge Bodansky.
As an international film juror, she participated in the Santa Maria da Feira Festival in Portugal, SANFIC Festival in Chile, and the Lima International Film Festival in Peru.
She produced the documentary "Mariner of the Mountains," by Karim Aïnouz, which was screened in the Special Screening section of the Cannes Film Festival. She produced the film "I'm Still Here" and the series about Socrates by Walter Salles, also a documentary about Sidarta Ribeiro by Marcelo Gomes, and a documentary by João Moreira Salles about indigenous activist Txai Suruí.
