A filmmaker, photojournalist, and avid explorer, Stephen is driven by an insatiable curiosity to explore and tell the stories beneath the surface. His first documentary (producer/director/ writer) was a 26-minute pilot called A Round for the House (2002). His first major success came when he was lead editor and story editor on the award winning film The Forgotten City (2006).
He has earned screen credits as a director, story editor, producer, field producer, director of photography, and editor on over 100 national television shows and projects. These have included programs for every one of the major networks, NBC, CBS, ABC, National Geographic, United Nations Films, Paramount, CNN, The History Channel, PBS, AP, Reuters, Discovery Networks, FOX News Channel, Travel Channel, Food Network and more. He has worked as a field producer for the Olympic Games (2010). He has also served as a judge for the EMMY Awards, the International Documentary Association.
In addition to his documentary and television experience Stephen has directed and produced hundreds of promotional videos for corporate and NGO clients.
Recently, Stephen worked as Director of Photography for several PBS documentaries (2018, 2019, 2020) and traveled to Congo for the United Nations on a documentary tracking the Ebola Outbreak there entitled Fighting for Survivors (2020).
Currently (2022), Stephen is directing a documentary entitled 98 Degrees West -Zamir Discovers Bourdain's America.
