Gustavo Galvão (Brasilia, 1976) directed and released seven shorts and five features between 2002 and 2023. His first feature, Nine Chronicles for a Screaming Heart (Nove Crônicas para um Coração aos Berros, 2012), was awarded by FIPRESCI at the 31st International Film Festival of Uruguay and was shown throughout Latin America on Netflix and Apple TV. His following movie, the critically acclaimed A Violent Dose of Anything (Uma Dose Violenta de Qualquer Coisa, 2013), was released in 17 cities in Brazil. We Still Have the Deep Black Night (Ainda Temos a Imensidão da Noite, 2019) was awarded the Best Performance prize at BAFICI and had a wider release in Brazil and on platforms in 119 countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France and throughout Latin America. In 2023, Galvão released the experimental feature film Inventory of Lost Images (Inventário de Imagens Perdidas, at the 41st Uruguay IFF, in April) and the drama Bleak Sunday Afternoons (O Vazio de Domingo à Tarde, at the 47th São Paulo International Film Festival). Graduated in Journalism at the University of Brasilia and in Filmmaking at the Escuela Universitaria de Artes y Espectáculos (Madrid, Spain), the filmmaker has been working also as curator and programmer of film festivals and exhibits since 2004.
