Stars: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Noah Le Gros, Kerry Knuppe, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick Searcy, Abraham Benrubi, Clint Howard | Written by Carl W. Lucas | Directed by Brett Donowho
Incredible as it may seem, this is Nicolas Cage’s first western, although he clearly enjoyed shooting it, because he’s already done another one (Butcher’s Crossing). Essentially a knock-off version of True Grit, The Old Way isn’t especially overwhelming in terms of plot and direction, but it’s eminently watchable all the same, thanks to strong onscreen chemistry between Cage and young co-star Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
The film begins with a prologue sequence, in which grizzled gun-for-hire Colton Briggs shoots and kills almost everyone during an attempted hanging, including the man he was supposed to be rescuing in the first place. Twenty years later, Briggs (now sadly sans moustache) has hung up his guns in favour of raising his young...

The Old Way is a Western directed by Brett Donowho, written by Carl W. Lucas starring Nicolas Cage.
Yes, Nicolas Cage will (probably) work with no breaks this year and already has premieres ahead such as Renfield (in which he will be Dracula with his usual mayhem). Meanwhile, we can see him here in a Western which although it might not go down in the History of Film, is decent enough as far as production and ambience.
And, also has an incomparable philosophical subject: Nicolas Cage wears a Stetson!
About the Movie The Old Way
A story about vengeance, shooting and… Nicolas Cage, who is still the absolute star of the B Series with the personality that he has after that Oscar (for Leaving Las Vegas), which more than one academic must regret having given to him. Laughing at his own stardom, he can enjoy making relatively good, bad and…...

Exclusive: Firestarter reboot lead Ryan Kiera Armstrong and Evil Dead alum Shiloh Fernandez are among cast to have joined Nicolas Cage in action-western The Old Way, which we revealed last week.
In The Old Way, Cage stars as Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger who now runs a general store and lives quietly with his family. When a gang of outlaws murders his wife in cold blood, Briggs returns home to find his world burning. He unearths his sidearm and saddles up with an unlikely partner: his twelve-year-old daughter. The project marks Cage’s first ‘traditional’ western.
Armstrong, who plays Briggs’ daughter Brooke, recently starred in American Horror Story: Double Feature on FX and will soon be seen in Blumhouse’s Firestarter, where she will reprise the role of Charlie, made famous by Drew Barrymore in the original 1984 adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel. A sort of “After Hours” update with a lot more drugs and time ellipses, “The Wave” throws Justin Long down a rabbit’s hole of sometimes hallucinatory, sometimes mortal peril when his button-down protagonist makes the mistake of celebrating a career breakthrough a little too adventurously. This surreal comedy from debuting feature director Gille Klabin and writer Carl W. Lucas offers a colorfully diverting ride that invokes the specter of everything from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” to “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
What it doesn’t quite have is the singularity of vision those and other movies had in putting their protagonists through some mind-expanding changes, whether induced psychedelically or supernaturally. This fever dream feels more derivative than distinctive, entertaining and eventful as it is. Still, it’s a well-cast, well-crafted stab at something offbeat that should find a modest but appreciative viewership in limited theatrical release (simultaneous with VOD launch) on Jan.

Let’s give Justin Long some overdue credit: few everyman actors actively choose to push the edges of their beta-dude personas. There’s always a need for ordinary guys in rom-coms and sitcoms, and Long could easily coast through them.
As often as not, though, he embraces eccentric efforts that remain under the radar, and surely don’t include a mainstream paycheck. Sometimes these risks are so bananas they become unforgettable, like 2014’s “Tusk,” in which Kevin Smith turned Long into a walrus. And sometimes, inevitably, they’re “The Wave.”
Even here, generous viewers might appreciate Long’s commitment to the unusual and unexpected. Through no fault of his, however, they will find both their loyalty and their patience considerably tested.

Exchanging information after an accident on the road is usually the responsible, smart thing to do… except when the car you collided with belongs to a killer. Ahead of Fender Bender’s June 3rd premiere on the Chiller channel, the official trailer for Scream Factory’s new horror film teases the deadliness of the Driver.
Written and Directed by Mark Pavia (Stephen King’s The Night Flier), Fender Bender stars Makenzie Vega (The Good Wife), Dre Davis (Pretty Little Liars, Scavenger Killers), Cassidy Freeman (Smallville, Longmire) and Bill Sage (American Psycho, We Are What We Are). Evocative of the horror-thriller classics of yesteryear, Fender Bender brings you back to a time when the boxes on the shelf at your local video store beckoned you with masked, knife-wielding maniacs and a twisted sense of morals.
