"Avoid everything here - it's bad." Xyz Films and IFC Midnight have debuted a trailer for the movie Stung, from director Benni Diez, a horror about disgusting giant mutant, ugly ass wasps, that need to be slayed right now. Clifton Collins Jr., Jessica Cook, David Masterson & Lance Henriksen star as guests at a party that goes to hell when these mutant wasps emerge from the ground. The description claims that it has a "seamless blend of CGI and oozing practical effects", but I can't really tell. It's also supposed to be a horror comedy but none of the jokes really hit either. Anyway, take a look and let us know what you think. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Benni Diez's Stung, direct from IFC's YouTube: In a remote country villa set amid foggy rural farmlands, the elderly widow of a pharmaceutical magnate holds an annual garden party for...

A new sci-fi short titled R'ha has started making waves and can be watched below. The video was created by 22-year-old Kaleb Lechowski, who talked about the launch on his site . "R'ha has officially been released! After seven months of intensive work. I suggest to watch it in full quality, as well as a nice sound system, if possible. I appreciate sharing this with your friends :) R'ha is a solo project I created during the first year of my studies. Special thanks to Dave Masterson for voice acting and to Hartmut Zeller for sound and music, as well as to my wife for her support!" What do you think of the short? Do you think it has the potential for being turned into a movie or series?...

So going through my inbox, I got this email from a reader alerting me to 22 year old visual effects prodigy out of Germany named Kaleb Lechowski.
Kaleb is currently studying animation and digital film design at Mediadesign Hochschule in Germany. During the first year of his studies, Kaleb made his first short film R’ha. The short film was a solo project and quite the herculean effort. It took seven months to execute. All computer animation and design was created by Kaleb. He used used Blender a lot for modeling, then sculpted in zBrush, animated and rendered in Maya with Mental Ray with compositing in Nuke and After Effects.
What is the short about? A member of an alien race is being interrogated and tortured by a machine. Written, directed, animated by Kaleb Lechowski, sound by Hartmut Zeller, and voice acting by David Masterson.
For a first time effort, the short and execution is Outstanding.

Magnet Releasing (Survival of the Dead, Centurion) continues to snap up movies this week and the latest acquisition is the German shot Black Death. This film stars Sean Bean and Magnet will release this title in the Us in the first quarter of 2011 (January-April). Director Christopher Smith had some insightful thoughts to expression on the sale and on his film: "Black Death is a film that I am immensely proud of, and I’m so pleased it has found such a great home for its Us release...on the one hand it is a violent historical drama and on the other, a terrifying horror movie, in which the more realistically I shot the past, the more it reflected the present. A time when in spite of the fact people were dying of the plague, they still found the time to torture and kill each other” (Magnet). These are some very...
