Paramount Network was Spike TV, until parent-company Viacom rebranded it earlier this year. It then experienced something of a rocky start. Even though season one was in the can, the network postponed, rescheduled, and then cancelled its Heathers TV series adaptation, without airing it, because school violence is all too real in this day and age. They also tried to move the second season of Nobodies over from TV Land, but the fans didn't follow, so that plan was abandoned. Enter the American Woman TV show. Is this 1970s period piece the program which will finally put the renamed cable network on the map? Will American Woman be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

“American Woman” will not be returning for a second season, the Paramount Network announced Wednesday.
The series starred “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone as a mother navigating the 1970s sexual revolution. Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels also starred in the 12-episode first season. While the John Riggi-created series started off strong, it did not maintain high enough ratings to merit a sophomore run.
The cast also included Makenna James, Lia McHugh, Cheyenne Jackson and James Tupper. John Wells, John Riggi and Alex Hardcastle served as executive producers.

“You’re just gonna forget that this ever happened and just move on,” the busted-cheating husband says to his wife. “Yeah?” she replies with an almost-frightening smile — that then morphs into a truly frightening stare. “I can’t do that.”
Here’s the first trailer for American Woman, Paramount Network’s half-hour dramedy starring Alicia Silverstone as the wronged spouse. Set in the mid-1970s “amid the sexual revolution and the rise of second-wave feminism,” it follows Bonnie, an unconventional mother who is struggling to raise her two daughters after she bails on the hubby.
Bonnie fires the maid and gardener then tells her besties Kathleen (Meni Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels) that she’s going to find a job. (Diana knows this math: “Try working twice as hard for half the recognition and a quarter of the pay.”) All three discover their own brand...
