Austrian Secret Service Chief : It is now my duty to point out to you that the profession of a spy is the most ignoble calling on earth, lower than anything you have have ever experienced. And it is dangerous, of course.
Marie Kolverer : I've had an inglorious life. It may become my good fortune to have a glorious death.

Marie Kolverer : Shall I drop in another coin?
Austrian Secret Service Chief : Do I sound like a pianola?
Marie Kolverer : Almost.
Austrian Secret Service Chief : I suppose you're a great musician.
Marie Kolverer : No, but I do know something about music.

Austrian Secret Service Chief : Would you like to make some easy money?
Marie Kolverer : Is there any such thing?

Austrian Secret Service Chief : There are times in my work when a man's brain cannot accomplish as much as a woman's charm, as you demonstrated last night. Ha! You completely fooled me, had me arrested. You're a clever woman and a very loyal one.

Marie Kolverer : So you wish me to become a spy.
Austrian Secret Service Chief : You dislike the word "spy"?
Marie Kolverer : Perhaps I haven't the right to object to any word.
Austrian Secret Service Chief : You haven't. Sit down.
-
Court-Martial Officer : Before you hear the sentence, I want to ask if you have anything to say.
Marie Kolverer : No, I have nothing to say.
Court-Martial Officer : Well, then, as a matter of record, I'd like you to tell me why a woman charged with important work should permit or aid the escape of a dangerous enemy, why she should dishonor the service, violate duty because of a casual affection for that man.
Marie Kolverer : Perhaps I loved him.
Court-Martial Officer : You can't make me believe you can love a man you've known but for a few hours. That's the sort of love that can be bought on the streets.
Austrian Secret Service Chief : I found her on the street.
Court-Martial Officer : You were given a chance to redeem your unfortunate life in the service of your country. Can you advance a single reason why you've failed to take advantage of that privilege?
Marie Kolverer : I suppose I'm not much good, that's all.
