- An old traditional family and a modern family battle over land in a small English village and almost destroy each other.
- Mr. Hornblower, an up-and-coming industrialist, is buying up land in the county, much to the disgust of the old money Hillcrists. They previously sold a property to Hornblower with the proviso that the current tenants would not be evicted and now he's kicking them out so that he can build on the land. After a bit of skulduggery at the auction, Hornblower buys up a prized piece of land, further cementing his hold on the region. Now the Hillcrists come into some information which should persuade Hornblower to back off.—grantss
- The old money Hillcrists and the nouveau riche Hornblowers are in a feud all stemming from a past land deal. While the Hillcrests sold some property near to where they live to Mr. Hornblower on the premise of keeping the property for itinerant farming, Hornblower has instead amassed land to build factories which is getting to the point of ruining the Hillcrists' pastoral existence. There is another piece of property adjacent to where the Hillcrists' live which Hornblower wants specifically to build housing for his factory workers, the Hillcrists, who do not own it, willing to do anything to stop Hornblower from buying it including buying it themselves. Of the adult offspring of the two families, Charles Hornblower wholeheartedly supports his father, while Jill Hillcrist and Rolf Hornblower, who are friendly with each other, just want the feud to end. With the aforementioned property the current key to the feud, the question becomes how far especially Mr. Hornblower and equally ruthless Mrs. Hillcrist will go to beat the other, and whether any collateral damage to people who have nothing to do with their feud is worth that price of winning.—Huggo
- In the countryside of England, Mr. and Mrs. Jackman are evicted from the cottage where they have been living for thirty years by the new owner of the land, the industrialist Mr. Hornblower. They go to the house of the former owner, the conservative upper-class Mr. Hillcrist, who sold his land with the condition that the tenants would not be evicted. He calls Mr. Hornblower, and they have an argument, since they have different point of views of the future of the town. When Mr. Hornblower decides to buy the land of Mr. Hillcrist's neighbor to build another factory, the owner decides to sell it by auction. There is a dispute between Mr. Hornblower and Mr. Hillcrist, and the industrialist wins, but buys the land by twice its value. But their feud does not stop, and Mrs. Hillcrist uses the agent Dawker to investigate the past of Hornblower's daughter-in-law Chloe Hornblower and when she finds a secret, she uses it to blackmail Hornblower.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- A rich family, the Hillcrests, is fighting against the speculator, Hornblower, who sends away poor farmers to build factories on their lands. When Mrs. Hillcrest finds out that Chloe Hornblower was a prostitute, she uses this secret to blackmail the speculator and force him to stop his business.—Claudio Sandrini <pulp99@geocities.com>
