Was originally screened on Channel 7 in Australia in 1985 until it was canceled at the end of 1985 (after only eight months) in favor of Channel 7's new one-hour news service. The show was saved by rival network Channel 10 who acquired the rights for the show and, beginning in January 1986, have screened it ever since. The show has since become Australia's most successful drama series, enjoyed by 30 million viewers a day in more than 20 countries.
The show is the longest running drama in Australian television history, and recorded Episode #1.4000 (2002) on 21 December 2001.
