Satranic Panic: "Dark Star Pictures is releasing renowned director Alice Maio Mackay’s Trans slasher/horror Satranic Panic On Digital and On Demand August 13, 2024.
A bloody, demon-infested road movie about the power of claiming one’s identity and the importance of chosen family, Satranic Panic exposes the hypocrisy of the status quo with biting wit, killer drag, and incredible tits.
Satranic Panic made its world premiere at SXSW’s inaugural edition in Sydney before heading to Panic Fest, Salem Horror Fest and more. Dread Central raved that the film is Maio Mackay’s “most ambitious story and style yet.”
At only twenty years old, Australian filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay has already directed five feature films, including So Vam (2021), Bad Girl Boogey (2022), T Blockers (2023), Satranic Panic, and the upcoming Carnage for Christmas. An expanded version of writer/director Ken’ichi Ugana’s 2021 short film Visitors, Visitors (Complete Edition) is probably the strangest feature to play at this year’s FRomford Horror Film Festival. And at sixty-one minutes, including credits, Visitors (Complete Edition) is probably the shortest as well. In other words, it’s a lot of weirdness packed into a short running time.
It all begins innocently enough as three friends Haruka, Nana, and Takanori drop in on their bandmate Souta who has dropped out of touch with them and everyone else for that matter. They find his house covered in old newspapers, fliers and other assorted papers. But when he finally answers the door he invites them in for tea. That was mistake number one. Superman is on the lookout for Lex Luthor. Even though the criminal mastermind only appears in public under one of his many wigs, Superman knows that Lex Luthor is bald. So when he sees a hairless man on the street, Superman accosts the pedestrian only to see not Gene Hackman’s menacing smile, but detective/lollipop enthusiast Theo Kojak, played by Telly Savalas. Superman pauses for a moment for the audience to roar in laughter when they recognize the popular television character, who pulls out his sucker to utter his famed catchphrase, “Who loves ya, baby!”

Here is some awesome news for fans of the independent film production and distribution company Troma Entertainment: Troma has just announced that they’re teaming up with Renaissance Content Group add some of their cult classic films to Amazon’s Freevee streaming platform. The films will be available to stream free-with-ads on Freevee, on all streaming devices.
Troma didn’t provide a full list of the titles that will be added to Freevee. If they did, we’d be here going over the list all day, because according to the company they will be putting “hundreds of films” on Freevee! They did mention some specific titles, and we’ll hand it over to them so they can share the information:
Over the next few months, hundreds of films will be coming to the channel. The list includes iconic Troma films such as the entire Toxic Avenger series, Class of Nuke ’em High,...

Retroware has announced another blast from the past for Saturday morning cartoon aficionados (and horror fans) with Toxic Crusaders. Yes, the same Toxic Crusaders cartoon that’s now streaming on Screambox! The game is aiming for a late 2023 release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One.
The story sees Dr. Killemoff once again causing trouble, and it’s up to Toxie and his team of hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength to stop Dr. Killemoff and his plans for global pollution.
Similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge last year, Toxic Crusaders will see you as Toxie with up to three other players in an arcade-style beat-’em-up. You’ll be able to choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, No-Zone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Toxie’s musically “gifted” girlfriend Yvonne, and the mother of all mothers, Mrs. Junko, Toxie’s mom!

Troma Entertainment’s Lloyd Kaufman is as unique as his studio is independent. Ironic, sarcastic, or provocatively caustic, Uncle Lloyd has got something to say and gets his point across on several levels simultaneously. It’s more economical. The iconic studio is renowned for cult classics like Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and Surf Nazis Must Die, but the low-budget auteur maintained a diverse career of almost 50 years of “reel independence.”
Troma was founded in 1974 by Yale film society buddies Kaufman and Michael Herz. Their movies were produced on tiny budgets and were proudly proclaimed to make only “the most offensive, tasteless films in the history of cinema.” Even the lowest of low budget studios aspire to the highest of standards, and those without any at all shoot for the moon.

Happy Friday, everyone! This time last week, we celebrated the amazing independent horror films that were released throughout the 1970s, so it only makes sense that we shift our focus today to all the great indie genre movies and moviemakers that helped make the ’80s one of the most unforgettable decades in horror.
Much like the 1970s, we saw a handful of eventual Masters of Horror establish themselves as genre storytellers on the indie side of things throughout the ’80s. On the East Coast, we saw an explosion of creativity come out of New York City with filmmakers such as William Lustig, Frank Henenlotter, Larry Fessenden, and Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman making their feature debuts in the world of horror during the ’80s. And even though Troma Entertainment was founded in 1974, the company really came into its own during the 1980s as well. The indie studio founded by the aforementioned...

The ratty hair, the twisted teeth, the oily flesh. No, I'm not talking about the newest movie monster. I'm talking about our awkward high school years! In celebration of the release of All Cheerleaders Die, we're taking a look back at the Top 9 High School Horrors.
Looking back, we can remember plenty of high school horrors, and combination skin is just one of them. There were a lot of possibilities for this list, and we've got 9 of our favorites listed below. But we would have to flunk ourselves if we didn't turn in an honor roll of honorable mentions.
Of course another Lucky McKee film, The Woods, has to be listed, as does Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And those vivacious vixens from The Craft turned up the heat in their high school, and nobody - and we mean nobody - survives Cherry Falls.

A few nights ago, I went to the screening of Troma’s hilarious new movie Return To Nuke ‘Em High Volume 1. Texas Frightmare Weekend and Rue Morgue magazine were kind enough to sponsor the event at the historic Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff. Texas Frightmare is an annual horror convention that happens every May in Irving, Texas, that welcomes both celebrities and fans to gather and celebrate the genre. Fearnet will be attending the event this year, so make sure to stop by their booth to say hello and grab some much needed hand sanitizer!

Lloyd Kaufman is a staunch defender of American independent cinema. He's also the guy who, with business partner Michael Herz, co-directed The Toxic Avenger and Class of Nuke 'Em High. As the co-founder of the now-40-year-old Troma Entertainment, Kaufman produces, distributes, and directs no-brow comedies about, for, and by a new generation of juvenile delinquents like South Park's Matt Stone and Trey Parker, and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. This month, Kaufman's latest film, Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol. 1, had its New York premiere at the Museum of Modern Art. The Village Voice talked to Kaufman about too much urination, stoner-friendly kids' shows, and the Toxic Avenger's Christ-like qualities. How did you sneak into Moma?<...

The original Class of Nuke 'Em High mixed fears of nuclear power into a pungent broth of New Wave teenage rebellion and gross-out FX.
The latest sequel stirs in anxiety over Gmo foods, as the old power plant has been replaced with a shady food distributor called TromOrganic. One tainted Taco Tuesday later, and a group of put-upon high school outcasts (an unfunny parody of Glee) have mutated into a terrorizing gang of Cretins, just like in the old days.
Meanwhile Lauren (Catherine Corcoran), the new girl at school, is beginning a secret relationship with classmate Chrissy (Asta Paredes), an anti-TromOrganic blogger, while she looks for her missing pet duck. (The ramshackle plot never concludes, either, pausing till Volume 2.)

New distribution company FilmRise has added a crop of cult horror titles to their quickly growing list of horror acquisitions for home video release in DVD and digital formats. Their latest acquisitions include several films helmed by Class of Nuke 'Em High director Richard W. Haines, including the goofy 1984 slasher Splatter University, psycho-thriller Head Games and his most recent feature What Really Frightens You? Also in the lineup is the campy cannibal flick Flesh Eating Mothers and monster-kid opus The Suckling. The new titles join previous FilmRise horror pickups that include Wes Craven's occult obscurity Deadly Blessing (starring Sharon Stone), TV movie Grave Secrets (starring Patty Duke) and SyFy series Deals from the Darkside. They also recently picked up the digital distribution rights to John Landis's 1981 classic An American Werewolf in London. Check out their full catalog at their official site.

There seems to be a constant struggle to get mainstream film critics to recognize horror movies for what they set out to do: scare and entertain. No one is suggesting that The New York Observer should exalt The Purge as the next Citizen Kane, but it would be nice to see critics recognize that the film makes an astute political statement while simultaneously being quite entertaining. Horror films are so frequently treated like the bastard stepchild of the Hollywood machine. Horror is just as much of an art form as any other cinematic genre, but one could speculate that mainstream film critics go into screenings for genre features with the preconceived notion that they're about to sit through 90 minutes of rubbish. If that's truly the attitude of most entertainment journalists, it’s no wonder fright flicks often score low on movie review aggregators like Rotten Tomatoes. Not every horror film will be of Oscar caliber,...

While I was on hiatus, Arrow Video released a ton of fantastic huge titles on Blu-ray and I'm only beginning to catch up with them. Their output in recent months has somehow managed to raise the bar for cult home video releases and has taken a somewhat sticky reputation and turned it into a massive pile of kudos for titles that are world-beaters. From Italy we get not only Lucio Fulci's magnum opus, Zombie (Aka Zombie Flesh Eaters), but also a trio of Mario Bava classics, including his first directorial efforts, a Tromatic classic in Class of Nuke 'Em High, and a pair of classic chicks-with-swords films in Lady Snowblood 1 & 2. All winners, all worth your money, but here's a little bit more...

Lloyd Kaufman, the founder of Troma Entertainment (who brought us such cinematic delicacies as Tromeo and Juliet, Toxic Avenger, and Class of Nuke 'Em High) will take part in one of Reddit's famous Ama sessions. Normally that Ama stands for "Ask Me Anything," by Kaufman doesn't hang like that. He says, "Axe Me Anything!"
The Ama will also aim to promote his upcoming documentary, Occupy Cannes, in which Kaufman and the Troma team attempt to premiere a truly independent film at the increasingly non-independent film fest.

If you're a Troma films connoisseur then this Return to Nuke 'Em High teaser video is for you. We told you a few months back that ol' Lloyd Kaufman was gearing up for a sequel to the 1986 film Class of Nuke 'Em High and, judging by this teaser, the new film is definitely cut from the same cloth. Nothing changes in Tromaville. Boobs. Bodily fluids. Bare flesh. Creatures. It's all here in Not Safe For Work fashion. Enjoy.

A new trailer has been spotted online for the 'Return to the Class of Nuke 'Em High' and it features everything we've come to expect from such a project. Rttconeh, penned by Kaufman, Travis Campbell, Casey Clapp and Derek Dressler, sees appearances from the likes of pornstar Ron Jeremy, Debbie Rochon, Daniel Scud Kucek, Caleb Emerson and Catherine Corcoran. Yesterday we dropped the skinny on Troma Entertainment's Return to Class of Nuke 'Em High revealing that principal photography for the film has been completed. Now less then 24 hours later the veil has been lifted off of the official trailer and trust me when I say - it's vintage Troma... no doubt! So if you're in for some mindless over-the-top violence, some T & A sprinkled in with a dash of male frontal nudity and gore, gore and more gore then…...

Troma Films is the loving creation of Lloyd Kaufman, a filmmaker along the same lines as Roger Corman. For years he has funded and helped low budget filmmakers create movies. Troma has released a ton of movies over the years from the cult classic The Toxic Avenger and Class Of Nuke 'Em High to cheezy flicks with titles like Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters and Blood Boobs And Beast! While Troma may not be everyone's taste, there is no arguing that they are fun timewasters. The latest...

It looks like another stellar quarter for Arrow Video who've just announced their Summer/Autumn slate for 2012. The most interesting additions are the set of Troma produced features, which look stellar, thanks in large part to a healthy dose of bonus material and some outstanding custom cover art from the legendary Graham Humphreys. The other very cool release is a Blu-ray two pack of the original Lady Snowblood films, available both as dual format Blu-ray/DVD and in Steelbook configurations. All of these look awesome, though be sure to check out the region coding info before getting too excited. It looks like Class of Nuke 'Em High will be all region, but Lady Snowblood will be Region B. [1] Troma Entertainment may be famous for its low-budget, independent approach to filmmaking, but the B-movie house isn't averse to the big-money kind, either. Last year saw the Fantastic Fest premiere of the Brett Ratner-produced Mother's Day remake [2], as well as the announcement of a Toxic Avenger reimaginging [3] by to be produced by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Steven Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine). Now comes news that the studio is interested in doing still more remakes, and is currently in negotiations to sell the rights to Class of Nuke 'Em High and Poultrygeist. Read more after the jump. For those who aren't familiar with Troma's works (or just need a reminder), here's the synopsis for Class of Nuke 'Em High via Troma's press release: The original Class of Nuke 'Em High, directed by Richard W. Greetings from Tromaville! Troma Entertainment's theatrical classics Class of Nuke 'Em High and Poultrygeist are now in negotiation to be remade as mainstream, big-budget productions, following deals for the remake of The Toxic Avenger, which will be produced by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Steven Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Troma's Mother's Day, which has just been remade by Brett Ratner (X-Men, Tower Heist).
The original Class of Nuke 'Em High, directed by Richard W. Haines and Troma President Lloyd Kaufman in 1986, tells how a radioactive leak in the Tromaville Nuclear Plant contaminates the marijuana consumed by the students in Tromaville High School.

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Point Blank Trailer It's this time of year when escapism reigns supreme. It's an odd week for DVD and Blu-ray lovers with a couple of new releases but mostly just a lot of rehashes and semi-strange pairings such as Identity and Secret Window .
In the "new" category are The Wolfman (our by default pick of the week), Long Time Dead (about some college kids and a Ouija board -- those stories never end well), Killer Swarm (a made-for-German-tv movie Foy told us about a few months ago), and horror/comedy Cornered! starring Steve Guttenberg.
Then we get stuff like I Know What You Did Last Summer/I Still Know What You Did Last Summer on Blu-ray, four "Dreadtime Stories Double Features", Darkman 2 and III (no doubt in anticipation of the original Darkman's Blu-ray release on June 15th), and finally!, a proper release of Chad Ferrin's Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!

There are lots of goodies hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week with the standouts being the long-awaited Tell Tale, post-apocalyptic father and son saga The Road, and pick of the week True Blood: The Complete Second Season.
But those are just the high profile releases. There's also the suspenseful, funny, gory Babysitter Wanted, UK thriller Dark Nature, atmospheric supernatural tale Finale, demonic The Landlord, and Someone's Knocking at the Door, which bills itself as a tribute to old fashioned horror films.
Bowing on Blu-ray are City of the Living Dead (available as a special edition DVD as well), 1981's Clash of the Titans, Class of Nuke 'Em High, It Waits, and The Shortcut. Rounding things out is a collector's tin of Machine Girl.
Add in a few more offerings we'll let you guys discover for yourselves, and May 25th offers a pretty damn good haul all in all!
