Punk’d is back with new hosts, a new home, and a newfound focus on creators. The classic MTV prank show has been reimagined as Punk You, a YouTube series that will feature a cast of influencers, musicians, and other celebs.
The original version of Punk’d ran from 2003 to 2007, with actor Ashton Kutcher serving as the show’s host. There have been several attempts to bring back the show since then. The popularity of pranks on YouTube inspired brief revivals powered by talent on Vine and Quibi.
Punk You is quite different from those attempts, because instead of trying to find a replacement for Kutcher, the new show features rotating hosts from the creator community. Kutcher’s celebrity connections gave Punk’d star power in the 00s, and Punk You showrunners Sophie Watts and Joe White are betting that YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch stars can provide a similar vibe. The show follows in the stylin’ tire tracks of the iconic Pimp My Ride series. Like its predecessor, each episode features a car in desperate need of revival. Whether a long-serving van or a Mustang passed down through generations, these wheels have witnessed their fair share of miles. But despite wear and tear, emotional attachment keeps them puttering along.

“Atlanta Influences Everything” is a popular motto and movement capturing where the Southern city stands today. But Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthplace wasn’t always what it symbolizes now. Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, the Will Packer-produced limited series for Peacock bowing Sept. 6 and starring Kevin Hart with Samuel L. Jackson headlining an all-star cast, explores how a historic Muhammad Ali fight foreshadowed what the city’s impact would eventually become.
It’s an impact the Girls Trip and Oscars 2022 producer, who anchored his career in Atlanta beginning with the film Trois nearly 25 years ago, has personally experienced. Fight Night, which takes place during the time of Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight in Atlanta, is Packer’s 75th project. With that in mind, the promotional campaign for the series — which also stars Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle, and Chloe Bailey, with Shaye Ogbonna as its creator/showrunner...

Chris Redd is overhauling one of his favorite pieces of pop-culture history. The former Saturday Night Live comic is the star of Netflix’s Resurrected Rides (premiering July 24th), a revamped version of 2000s classic Pimp My Ride. “I’m so excited,” Redd tells me. “I want everybody to binge it. Even if you don’t like cars, I don’t give a shit. Just keep it on and let it run, baby!”
I recently spoke with Redd about his new show, how his Chicago improv background prepared him for the highs and lows of SNL and what it was like to chill with his comedic godfather, Eddie Murphy.

Jacob Elordi hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and one of the sketches that didn’t make it to air was a Pimp My Ride spoof that featured a cameo from Xzibit.
In the cut-for-time sketch, Elordi plays a janitor named Sergei. The Please Don’t Destroy group, consisting of Ben Marshall, John Higgins, and Martin Herlihy, finds out Sergei’s “car is busted” and gets an idea to spruce up his vehicle.
The trio approaches Sergei at a bus stop and surprises him, transforming his van “into a fully customized trash wagon,” which included a “fresh paint job, new decals, and a custom vanity plate” that reads, “Sergei da trash king.”

Tiffany Haddish is still haunted by how she was treated on her first film.
The “Girl’s Trip” breakout star and recent “Haunted Mansion” actress told the Associated Press in the below video that she was never paid for her film debut, despite being told her salary would be $1,200. Haddish was also homeless at the time.
“My very first movie I ever did that I was the star in, I was homeless while I was shooting that movie,” Haddish said. “They were supposed to pay me $1,200 to do the movie. I wasn’t in the union. It was non-union film so there was nothing I could do about it. They never paid me. They never paid me a dime.”
She continued, “The producers gave me 10 DVDs and said, ‘Sell those. Good luck.’ I never saw the movie.”
While Haddish did not name the film, her first credited role was in 2005’s “The Urban Demographic.

What do you get when you cross high-end computer builds with classic MTV programming? FaZe Clan‘s Rig Raiders provides the answer.
The new series is a contemporary take on Pimp My Ride, the mid-aughts favorite that brought outlandish vehicles to the masses. This time, instead of tricking out old cars, the Rig Raiders team is delivering custom PCs to celebrity guests.

As a college student in the 2000s, I often found myself getting sucked into MTV’s Pimp My Ride. I couldn’t help it. Not only was it on all the damn time, it had its feel-good formula down to a science: Xzibit’s boundless enthusiasm plus extravagant car modifications plus deserving participants made for a mood boost I generally found irresistible, whether I’d been looking for one or not. Still, when word got around that the experience hadn’t been all it was cracked up to be behind the scenes — that some of the heartwarming personal stories had been demeaning exaggerations, and that the upgrades were often barely functional — it came as little surprise. This was Hollywood. Of course it had all been for show.
I thought of Pimp My Ride often as I made my way through Rennervations, which likewise combines cheery sentiment and insanely tricked-out vehicles...

Between the Sundance-laurelled “Against the Tide,” “Pathaan'”s thundering box-office and Netflix’s quietly gripping miniseries “Trial by Fire,” India is on a roll in Q1 of 2023, consolidating the recent red-carpet success of “Rrr” and “All That Breathes.”
In theory, that slate should be bolstered further by the return of nifty genre technicians Raj & Dk – writer-director-producers Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. – who helped renovate the haunted-house movie with 2018’s “Stree” before handing Prime Video one of its biggest Indian hits with “The Family Man.”
Yet the oddly flat “Farzi” suggests the limitations of the pair’s approach – and that even streaming’s brighter minds might be prone to burnout.
Until now, the pair’s formula has been comparable to Xzibit’s on “Pimp My Ride”: take a clapped-out banger of a story and extensively redesign it. “Farzi” pushes its luck from the off with its uncommonly generic, get-rich-or-die-trying plot.

Bruce Beresford-Redman, an ex-producer of the reality television show “Survivor,” has been released from a Mexican prison after serving time for his wife’s murder.

Bruce Beresford-Redman, a former producer on reality series Survivor, has been released from a Mexican prison after spending years behind bars in connection with the death of his wife.
The TV producer was convicted in the killing of his wife Mónica Burgos during a family vacation with their two children in 2010. Her naked and beaten body was found in a septic tank at a Cancun resort, on what would have been her 42nd birthday.
Investigators said at the time that Burgos died following a violent confrontation with her husband, and the case made international headlines.
Beresford-Redman, now 48, maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. In a 48 Hours television special, he insisted he’d done nothing wrong.
“I’ve been accused of a horrible, abhorrent crime and I’m innocent,” he stated. “I did not kill Mónica.”
He returned home to Southern California, but was arrested in November 2010 and extradited to Mexico.

Icymi: Drake wished himself a "Ratchet Happy Birthday" earlier this week by dedicating his 32nd birthday bash to an iconic era, the 2000s. The exclusive celebration took place in Hollywood on Tuesday night and was attended by the likes of some of hip-hop's biggest names like Swizz Beatz, Diddy, and French Montana, as well as Kendall Jenner and Jordyn Woods. But the guest list wasn't even the most extravagant part of the event.
The over-the-top bash was complete with a 7-Eleven inside the venue - serving Slurpees, of course - a Blockbuster wall, a Rap City booth, and even some cars from Pimp My Ride. Oh, and did I mention the birthday cake was shaped exactly like a Motorola Timeport? Because that was also a thing. Drake arrived dressed as rapper Fabolous, wearing the same jersey, hat, chains, and bandana that he wore in his "Trade It All Part 2" music...

It was a snack attack with serious consequences.
A cat in danger of living the rest of its life with a pizza-flavored bag over its head — or much worse, suffering death by suffocation — was rescued by a very unlikely superhero: a dog.
The scene began in the back of pick-up truck that’s in need of a Pimp My Ride consultation (seriously, a trash compactor would fit really well right There).
The feline, who was apparently digging through the mess of trash in the truck’s bed, likely sniffed inside the “pizza rolls” bag and got its head stuck inside.

Monster Trucks is pure, child-first cinema that’s energetically staged to wow younger audiences (and entertain older chaperones). Didn’t see that coming, did ya? We’re talking about a film that Viacom publicly took a $115 million write-down for and buried away with little-to-no hype. As a critic, these scenarios typically spell a 15-car-pile-up kind of disaster – yet Monster Trucks is no such dumpster fire.
As legend tells, former Paramount film president Adam Goodwin fell in love with an idea co-spawned by his four-year-old son. From there, Ice Age/Robots director Chris Wedge was offered his first feature outside animation, with screenplay duties going to Safety Not Guaranteed/Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly (story by Glenn Berger/Jonathan Aibel/Matthew Robinson). No joke. All these people were tasked with making a child’s cinematic dreams come true, and that’s exactly what the film feels like – a wide-eyed, enthusiastic slice of fun-filled kiddie entertainment.

Excuse us if we're bursting your bubble here, but it turns out that MTV's beloved fixer-upper car show Pimp My Ride was total bullshit. The Huffington Post interviewed a few of the show's past contestants, who each had different complaints about the show's "reality" — everything from producers removing the add-ons after the show was done taping ("they actually take out a lot of the stuff that they showed on TV") to "pimped" items that "were occasionally put into cars with no intention of them ever working in real life." Whoops! That cotton-candy machine Xzibit excitedly installed in your ride? Well: "They installed [it to] fit into the trunk without leaving enough room for the dome top to keep the cotton candy strands 'from flying all over the place.'" That same guy tells HuffPost that the show even "went the extra mile to make me look extra fat by telling the world...

Though the year is not yet over, looking back over the last 12 months of movies it’s fairly safe to say that Michael Bay was once more responsible for the single dumbest movie of the year. In truth, he was responsible for two of the most numb-skulled of movies, but his Turtles travesty (which bears far more hallmarks of his film-making than any other director, no matter who was supposed to be in charge) made Transformers 4 look like Battleship Potemkin.
The film feels aged already, as if every joke – including a “Pimp My Ride” reference – was written ten years ago and nobody thought to check if it was all still current. And of course, this being a Bay film, everything was shot with ridiculous over-hyped importance (including a ludicrous emotional swell and visual flourish when April O’Neil presses an intercom) and at an angle of 130 degrees,...
