If you’ve been keeping up with Star Wars news recently, you’ll know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ the latest addition to the franchise, has been canceled after just 8 episodes. The show faced controversy even before its premiere, and its poor quality, combined with a hefty $180 million budget, only made matters worse for everyone involved.
Although the show started off well, with viewership numbers just slightly below ‘Ahsoka,’ it quickly began to lose viewers week after week, and criticism on social media intensified.
Despite its cancellation, The Acolyte has managed to gather a devoted fanbase that’s now pushing for Disney+ to renew the show. The hashtag #SaveTheAcolyte is trending on X (formerly Twitter), and a Change.org petition has already garnered 43,342 signatures. But what are the chances of the show actually getting renewed?
Historically, fan campaigns have successfully brought back several shows. When Fox canceled Lucifer after its...

Exclusive: If all goes to plan, America and the world will know in the next few hours who Kamala Harris has picked to be her running mate against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance. However, in the corridors of Hollywood power and money, an overwhelming favorite choice has emerged.
“Josh Shapiro,” one agency executive declares in a statement echoed around town today. “Pennsylvania wins the election,” the exec promptly added of why the Keystone Stone state’s governor would be the best fit for the Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee’s just over two-week-long White House bid in a still tight Electoral College battle with Trump.
With the Veep decision coming down to the wire ahead of the Democrats’ convention in Chicago starting on August 19, Gov. Shapiro, along with Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-az), individually met with the vice president over the weekend at her official residence near DC.

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are on the verge of Egot status… that is, if Emmy voters nominate their song from “Only Murders in the Building” and it winds up winning three months from now.
Pasek and Paul — already Oscar winners for “La La Land” and Tony and Grammy winners for “Dear Evan Hansen” — could finally manage that feat with the witty comic patter song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?,” sung by Steve Martin and co-written with fellow Tony and Grammy winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for the third season of the Hulu comedy-drama.
They are among the many prominent songwriters who have entered songs in this year’s Emmy competition. Voting began Thursday, with approximately 550 members of the Television Academy music peer group eligible to vote in seven music categories. Voting ends June 24 and the nominations will be announced July 17.

One of the most prominent TV series of the 21st century, the sci-fi drama The Oa, was canceled after its second season. And this is probably the worst decision made by Netflix since the adaptation of Winx Club.
The show, created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, is about a blind girl named Prairie who returns to her hometown after a mysterious seven-year absence. As the case unfolds, it is revealed that she has been held captive by a mad scientist who studies near-death experiences. Prairie gathers a group of people around her and initiates them into the mystery of her life, which she was able to comprehend after her clinical death.
The Oa Still Remains Netflix’s Main Hidden Gem
Unfortunately, The Oa remained a hidden gem of the Netflix collection – few people watched the series, but those who did were extremely enthusiastic. Critics called it the Twin Peaks of a new generation,...

So Help Me Todd’s cancellation news has the whole fan community raging over the unfair decision, but this time things may have gone a bit further than usual.
Apparently, over the course of its relatively short run of two seasons, the show conquered so many hearts and to such an extent that fans weren't enough with just calling CBS out on the social media.
All the fuss around the media actually makes a lot of sense. So Help Me Todd initially follows quite an original and compelling plot that revolves around goofy Todd who isn’t able to keep his life together when it starts falling apart after Todd is deprived of his investigative license.
Luckily, he’s immediately picked up by his own mother, portrayed by Oscar-winning Marcia Gay Harden, who finds him a place in her law firm. Todd’s mother has high hopes that he will...

Patience is a virtue, especially if you're a sci-fi fan.
When it comes to genre TV, science fiction and sci-fi adjacent programs are often saved when unceremoniously dumped by a network.
Jericho, Lucifer, The Expanse, and Stargate Sg-1 all found new life after cancellation. Today, Snowpiercer joins that list.
AMC Networks announced today that it has acquired the exclusive U.S. linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama series Snowpiercer.
The first three seasons of the critically acclaimed drama will stream on AMC+ later this year, leading up to the series’ season four premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
This should come as excellent news for TV Fanatics, as the show always drove discussion and fueled passionate viewers with much to say.

We're sad to report the passing of Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell at the too-young age of 49. His death was confirmed in an X/Twitter post (made via the account previously belonging to Mitchell himself) which eulogized him. Mitchell is survived by his family, including his parents, his siblings, and his wife, fellow actor Susan Pratt, and their children Lilah and Kallum (a GoFundMe has been set up for Mitchell's family by friends).
Mitchell built up a wide TV resume during the 2000s and 2010s. He didn't have many starring roles, granted, but he was in the main cast of the cult classic post-apocalyptic series "Jericho." Mitchell kept racking up guest roles on every major procedural series under the sun: "NCIS," "Grey's Anatomy," "Criminal Minds," "Castle" -- the list goes on.

Directorial duo Kit & Arran, whose darkly comedic satire “King Baby” premieres at International Film Festival Rotterdam, are lining up two further film projects, “How Dare You” and “Jericho,” the directors, whose full names are Kit Redstone and Arran Shearing, tell Variety.
Selected for the Bright Future section and initially developed as a play, “King Baby” sees a King and a Servant (Graham Dickson and Neil Chinneck) living alone in the ruins of a castle. When their daily routine is disturbed by a Queen, they start succumbing to their worst instincts. Even though she is a wooden mannequin.
Variety debuts the trailer here:
The film was produced by Franck Priot, Ye Shu, the directors and Marc Petey for Ghosts City and Chimples Pictures.
“We felt there was something deliciously promising about this stripped-down world,” says Kit. But despite its comedic set-up, “King Baby” quickly turns more disturbing, exploring “different nuances of patriarchal brutality.

Sometimes, TV shows end at the perfect time.
There are many variables that go into having a TV show on the air, and it can govern when they end.
We've rounded up some of the TV shows that ended far too soon, and frankly, it still hurts.
1. The Society - Netflix The coming-of-age drama focused on a group of teenagers in a town without adults. It had compelling characters and a solid mystery. Despite landing a renewal, the show was canceled due to production delays caused by Covid-19. This might be one of the worst decisions Netflix has ever made. 2. Santa Clarita Diet - Netflix Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant toplined this comedy about an undead realtor. The series had a devoted fanbase, but Netflix shocked everyone when it canceled the show after three seasons. And, no, there was no closure in sight. Boo. Netflix again? We're sensing a pattern.

Warning: contains spoilers for Series 4 of Unforgotten
It’s been two years since the last season of ITV’s hit crime drama Unforgotten, and at long last it’s back on our screens.
After that shocking Series 4 finale, in which we said a heartbreaking goodbye to Dci Cassie Stuart (aka the incredible Nicola Walker), we’ve got plenty of questions about the Series 5 cast.
In this latest series, when a body is found in a boarded-up fireplace, the team gets to work trying to identify who the victim is, and how long they’ve been there. We also discover that the person filling Cassie’s very large detective shoes as Sunny’s new boss-slash-bestie will be the prickly Dci Jessica James, who doesn’t exactly make a great first impression.
Unlike the previous four series, Series 5 of Unforgotten will also be made available as a bingeable box-set on Itvx as...

For an actor, landing a role on a TV series provides steady work in a business in which employment is usually uncertain. If that show becomes a hit, then all bets are off, with the gig escalating to something more akin to winning the lottery thanks to instant celebrity and an often giant salary. Of course, the odds of being cast in a hit TV series can be just as improbable as hitting the jackpot, which is why it can seem puzzling when a star decides walk away from a hit show. Sometimes, it's because an actor has been fired for whatever reason, but on other occasions, the exit comes at the behest of the star, who makes the risky decision to leave a sure thing for an unknown future. For viewers who earn in a year what a TV star rakes in for one episode, this can cause head-scratching,...

Following his feature film debut in the 2013 anthology film "All Hallow's Eve," horror fans wanted to see more of Art the Clown. The demonic killer clown portrayed by David Howard Thornton returned in "Terrifier" in 2016, but filmmaker Damien Leone is reanimating the sadistic slasher once again for "Terrifier 2," in a partnership with streaming service Screambox and Bloody Disgusting.
The highly anticipated sequel has premiered at Fantastic Fest, ahead of a wide theatrical release this fall, but one fan just couldn't wait to experience the film on the big screen. In fact, this fan was so stoked for Art the Clown to rise again that they did everything in their power to be a part of the movie. But before you go questioning your level of horror fandom, remember to keep this in mind: You're not "The Wizard" Chris Jericho.

Ever since letter-writing campaigns got the original "Star Trek" a third season, science fiction fans have beat the drum for their favorite shows that got prematurely canceled. Sometimes it works: "Jericho" got a second season thanks to fans mailing bags of nuts to the studio. Other times it doesn't: "Firefly" fans managed to get a movie, but never the revived series they wanted. Honestly, that's probably for the best given what we now know about Joss Whedon and Adam Baldwin.
While we don't hold out a lot of actual hope for the shows below to come back, this article highlights sci-fi series from the last several decades that should have run longer, either because they ended poorly/awkwardly or just because they were way too short. Where possible, because we're nothing if not constructive, suggestions are included as to how a continuation today might go. Here are 12 canceled sci-fi shows that deserve a second chance.

Bob's Burgers has graced our Televisions for Twelve Seasons on Fox and has finally reached the big screen.
The Bob's Burgers Feature film got hit with many covid delays in its production and release: but it was worth the wait!
The musical film featured all-new songs and the appearance of many beloved characters.
Bob's Burgers has done many musical episodes (including some two-parter musical episodes), and the movie brought the best aspects of those to the big screen.
By the end of the film, we thought they could have used another one or two musical numbers; but the ones we got were fantastic.
It's incredible what a bigger budget can do for production, and Bob's Burgers is no different.
The animation itself provided the most significant difference from the series.
The more streamlined effects and better shadowing made some of the best animations this year, especially with the musical numbers.

For Robert Rabiah, Queensland’s Mission Beach is more than just the location where he is filming fish-out-of-water drama Irreverent – it’s also where he began his career.

Exclusive: ABC is developing a legal drama written and executive produced by Bill Chais (Franklin & Bash), a former public defender, and Pat Cunnane (Designated Survivor), who was President Barack Obama’s Senior Writer and Deputy Director of Messaging at the White House. The drama is executive produced by the Black Sails duo of Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz and Warren Littlefield via The Littlefield Company. 20th Television, where The Littlefield Company is based, is the studio.
In the Untitled North Carolina Governor project, a brash Bronx public defender comes to North Carolina to reform a dysfunctional, seriously underfunded criminal justice system, putting him on a collision course with the tough-on-crime governor, when, desperate and out of options, he invokes an arcane law that can compel any attorney to serve as defense counsel in criminal trials… and assigns the first case to the governor herself, an attorney in good standing.

As I am writing this review, footage of terrifyingly flooded, largely evacuated New York City is everywhere.
I’ve spent the week wallowing in documentaries tied to the anniversary of 9/11, a snapshot of urban dystopia so harrowing no Hollywood equivalent could ever compete.
FX on Hulu’s long-awaited adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s comic classic Y: The Last Man is such an album of apocalyptic greatest hits that the comparisons will likely range from The Stand to The Walking Dead to 28 Days Later to The Strain to Revolution to Jericho. The most persistent comparisons, for me at least, were to a ...

There’s no denying that Richard Donner, who died Monday at 91, was one of the most influential architects of the blockbuster era. He directed “Superman,” the 1978 man-of-steel epic that invented the comic-book movie as we know it. He directed all four films in the “Lethal Weapon” series, which may be the quintessential incarnation of the joshingly abrasive, throwaway buddy-cop movie. He directed “The Omen,” the 1976 Satan-is-alive-and-he’s-a-scowling-schoolboy horror film that ruled the box office and spooked a generation of moviegoers’ imaginations.
Yet unlike those other formative directors of the blockbuster era, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, Donner was a crowd-pleasing showman who never pretended to be a deep cinematic artist. At his best, he worked with a straight-down-the-middle craft and vitality, and with a human touch that made his movies play like escapist fairy tales.
A telling thing about him is that he didn’t just start off in television,...
