It has been 14 years since Tron: Legacy hit theaters. And while we might need a refresher ahead of next year’s Tron: Ares, we should all remember at least one thing: the de-aging effects were suspect at best. Now, de-aging was still relatively new when Tron: Legacy came out in 2010 – and its usage does have some supporters – but Jeff Bridges still looks so phony…and he knows it!
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via THR), Jeff Bridges recalled the de-aging of Tron: Legacy as nothing short of a disaster. “It’s the new thing…I got scanned and in the computer for when we did Tron 2 — What was it called? — Legacy. I wasn’t particularly fond of that recreation of myself. I thought I looked more like Bill Maher than myself.” And yes, he means that as an insult.

While the recent actor and writer strikes made limiting the use of artificial intelligence central to their bargaining platforms, Jeff Bridges may have come up with the definitive argument against A.I.
On a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, host Josh Horowitz pointed out that “there’s probably no one more scanned in the metaverse than Jeff Bridges. Your face, your body.”
“Maybe so!” Bridges agreed in a humorously ominous voice.
“Someone has that,” said Horowitz. “Does that scare you a little bit? That like 150 years from now they can recreate you?”
That is just the new reality, Bridges acknowledged. When he books an acting gig going forward, producers will be leasing his image. But that doesn’t mean he’s always happy with the results. When Bridges starred in 2010’s Tron: Legacy, for example, it was one of the first films to use artificial intelligence to...

Jeff Bridges wasn’t too big a fan of his digitally altered appearance in 2010’s Tron: Legacy.
Speaking on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, The Old Man actor delved into past projects like Iron Man and The Big Lebowski. As the conversation turned to the 1982 cyberpunk sci-fi pic and modern-day discussions of the role of artificial intelligence in film, Bridges said the Joseph Kosinski sequel featured a still “new” de-aging process via computer scanning — one he didn’t necessarily like.
“I wasn’t particularly fond of that recreation of myself,” he recalled, chuckling. “I thought I looked more like Bill Maher than myself.”
Looking back at Tron, the veteran actor explained that it was a concept that was “so bizarre” at the time, with the film using techniques like black-and-white photography to create its futuristic, neon digital world.

In a recent podcast interview, actor Jeff Bridges shared his thoughts on the groundbreaking visual effects used in the “Tron” films. Bridges, who played Kevin Flynn in both 1982’s “Tron” and 2010’s “Tron: Legacy,” discussed his experience being digitally de-aged to portray a younger version of his character, Clu.
While acknowledging the pioneering nature of the technology, Bridges said he was less than thrilled with how his digital double looked. He told podcast host Josh Horowitz that Clu resembled comedian Bill Maher more than himself. Visual effects artists spent two years meticulously recreating Bridges’ appearance from 1984’s “Against All Odds.” They used body doubles during filming and digitally replaced the head in post-production.
Despite reservations about his digital likeness, Bridges recognized the ambitious efforts to create Clu. “Tron: Legacy” received praise for its special effects upon release in 2010. Directors pushed boundaries by utilizing techniques also seen in James Cameron’s 2009 film “Avatar.

Hollywood veteran Jeff Bridges is set to reprise his iconic role as Kevin Flynn in the upcoming Disney sci-fi film Tron: Ares. In a recent interview, the legendary actor reflected on his experiences in the Tron franchise so far. While Bridges enjoyed making 2010’s Tron: Legacy overall, he was less than pleased with how the early digital de-aging technology depicted him in the film.
“I got scanned for Tron: Legacy, but I didn’t like how I looked in the final product,” Bridges told a podcast. According to the actor, the de-aged version of himself in the movie resembled comedian Bill Maher more than his actual appearance. At the time, de-aging an actor through visual effects was cutting edge. But Bridges believes the technology has significantly advanced in the decade since.

There's a current Hollywood trend that is wholly disturbing. Many major studios -- but primarily Disney -- have been spending millions of dollars and hiring hundreds of effects technicians, animators, and designers to digitally resurrect dead actors to include in their franchise movies. The film "Alien: Romulus" did this recently, while the movies "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" hired actors Guy Henry and Bob Gunton to portray characters previously played by the late Peter Cushing and Harold Ramis before digitally altering them to resemble their predecessors. While Cushing's estate and Ramis' family signed off on this, it's still different from a living actor giving their consent to be digitally altered, like Jeff Bridges did for "Tron: Legacy."

Giddy up! Paramount could add some coal to the Yellowstone Express furnace as talk of a sixth season comes over the ridge. Yellowstone Season 6 could continue Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series with Kelly Reilly (Beth Dutton) and Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler) leading the charge. No concrete plans for Yellowstone Season 6 are in place. Still, Variety says the goal is to continue the story beyond the Yellowstone Season 5B finale, coming to Paramount+ on November 10.
Initially, Yellowstone’s end was in sight after Kevin Costner left the series to pursue his dream of filming his multi-part Western Horizon: An American Saga. Costner plays John Dutton for five and a half seasons of the fan-favorite show before falling out with Sheridan after Paramount decided to split the fifth season into two parts. Despite the little we know about Disney’s second anticipated “Tron” sequel, “Tron: Ares,” it’s clear the stars of the film had a good time making it.
Jared Leto revealed in an interview published Monday that the sci-fi franchise’s original star Jeff Bridges, who returns in the 2025 feature as computer programmer Kevin Flynn, had him ruining takes because he couldn’t stop smiling.
“One of the highlights was working with Jeff Bridges. Oh god, he’s just the best,” Leto told Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman, hosts of the “Smartless” podcast, of working with the Oscar winner. “I had one take where I had to literally say cut, and they’re like, ‘What’s wrong? Did something—?’ And I’m like, ‘No, I just can’t stop f–king smiling.’”
To Bateman then enthusing, “I love that guy,” Leto continued.

Tron: Legacy was a great film for several reasons. Piggybacking off the success and impact of 1982’s Tron, the film came as a surprising sequel to the classic film and ended up gaining even more popularity than its predecessor. While another part starring Jared Leto is set to release soon, many cannot help but wonder what took the sequel so long to develop.

With the second film having been released almost 14 years ago, fans almost lost hope and wondered what caused such a great delay. The director of the 2010 film, Joseph Kosinski, gave an interview where he talked about why another film did not happen immediately after, and his reasoning was quite interesting.

Coming a full 15 years after Tron: Legacy, next year’s Ares stands as one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. We still have well over a year before it hits the big screen, but Jared Leto is already hype for the Tron sequel, taking to Disneyland to ride the Tron Lightcycle / Run.
In a new Instagram post, Leto – who at the time was in Florida for a couple of stops on 30 Seconds to Mars’ Seasons Tour – is seen approaching the Tron ride and declaring, “We gotta go, we gotta do this, man. Holy sh*t! I feel like I’m home!” He also insisted on being on the front cycle, something fans of the ride say is well worth the wait. Judging by the clip, Leto had a pretty damn good time, although some followers did rib him for not taking his grip off the handlebars.

The Madison is expanding its cast so find out who is joining the new Yellowstone spinoff!
Yellowstone fans are still in flux regarding the fate of the show. The massive Paramount TV hit has had some major upheaval with star Kevin Costner departing after problems with creator Taylor Sheridan. This has led to the upcoming second half of Season 5 being the last for the show.
There had been plans for a continuation with most of the cast and Matthew McConaughey as the new star, but that's still up in the air. However, the network is going ahead with The Madison, a new drama set in the same universe as Yellowstone.
The show focuses on "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana." It sounds like a classic cultural clash between the posh New Yorkers and the residents of the state.

The legacy of Kurt Russell is immutable in its scale and grandeur. The actor who worked with Walt Disney melted the hardened emotions of Charles Bronson and developed a lifelong friendship with the Hollywood giant was a force of his own. The on-screen legacy of the actor, from Westerns to Marvel to Monsterverse stands as a calling card of a movie star who is as relevant in his 70s as he was in his teens.

Somewhere along his route to the peak of Hollywood’s Olympus, Russell crossed paths with numerous movie stars in the making and others in their third acts. Kevin Costner, the parable of the 80s and 90s, was one such star whose presence influenced Kurt Russell’s career as much as Russell impacted his.

The Walt Disney Company umbrella is so massive, and encompasses so many characters and franchises, that the definition of a "Disney fan" feels impossible to pin down these days. As I sat in the Honda Arena during this year's D23 fan convention in Anaheim, California, I wondered about the make-up of the audience. How many of them were Marvel folks? How many of them worshipped at the altar of Star Wars? Did some of them still pledge allegiance to good ol' fashioned Disney Animation, with a comparable appreciation for Pixar? And naturally, were there some folks who just loved all of the above?
I consider myself a pretty big fan of many of the characters and worlds that live within the Disney bubble, but I'm also perfectly capable of brushing off the stuff that just isn't for me. So as the evening's two-hour Disney Experiences Showcase panel entered its third hour,...

Disney held its annual D23 fan event in Anaheim, California this weekend. At the convention, the studio unveiled key details about the third installment in the “Tron” franchise, titled “Tron: Ares.”
Set to debut in theaters on October 10, 2025, “Tron: Ares” will bring back elements that made the original 1982 film innovative. It will continue pushing boundaries with state-of-the-art visual effects. At D23, attendees got a first look at the film through its debut trailer and announcements about the cast and creative team.
The footage suggested “Tron: Ares” will grapple with timely AI and big tech issues. Stars Jeff Bridges, Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters were on hand to discuss their roles. Leto described playing the villainous Ares program, who seeks to control the digital world permanently. Gillian Anderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Cameron Monaghan, and Sarah Desjardins round out the cast.

In the absence of Tron: Legacy’s composers, the legendary Daft Punk, Tron: Ares has turned to Nine Inch Nails instead for its score.
While not everybody was a fan of 2010’s Tron: Legacy, the film certainly hit in one particular regard: its incredible score was the result of what seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime bit of creative coupling. The film, which is of course largely set inside inside a digital world, was scored by Daft Punk, the electronic house duo who spent their decades-long career masquerading as synthetic beings. At least we think it was a masquerade. Who knows, really?
Anyway, the collaboration led to an excellent soundtrack but more than a few impediments lay in the way of Daft Punk returning for a reprise. The duo are now all but retired, at least as Daft Punk, while according to the studio.

At its D23 fan event in Anaheim, California on Friday night, Walt Disney Studios unveiled a first, exclusive look at footage from Tron: Ares, the third entry in what is now officially the Tron film franchise—which wasn’t a foregone conclusion after Tron: Legacy underperformed back in 2010.
Following up on the ending of that film, in which the AI character Quorra (Olivia Wilde) escaped from the Grid into the real world with Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), Tron: Ares is leaning fully in that direction with the Grid itself invading our world through the machinations of the malevolent program known as Ares (Jared Leto).
Leto and fellow cast members Greta Lee and Evan Peters came onto the D23 stage before the footage was shown, joined somewhat surprisingly by Jeff Bridges, the original Kevin Flynn, who arrived first to warm up the crowd. Even more surprisingly, Bridges also shows up at the end of the footage.

When Tron first appeared in 1982, it became one of the most popular sci-fi films of the era and is now considered a cult classic. A sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and received mixed reviews, but that did not stop Disney from producing yet another sequel. Tron: Ares is set to be the next installment in the series and will serve as a standalone sequel to the two previous movies. This is something we have already reported on!
Now, we knew that Tron would be featured at this year’s D23, and Disney really provided us with something to see, as the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Jared Leto-led movie was shown to the attendees of this year’s D23. And while the trailer has not been released online yet, we have some great news for you!

Walt Disney Studios finally dropped a first look at Tron: Ares at D23 last night, offering a better idea of what's to come in the highly anticipated, latest instalment in the groundbreaking sci-fi franchise. The movie is a follow-up to Disney's 1982 seminal science fiction film Tron and its 2010 sequel, Tron: Legacy.
The trailer hasn't been officially released, but as we first reported on SFFGazette.com, fans on X and Reddit have wasted no time sharing footage and photos from the action-packed sneak peek.
It opens with Evan Peters' character, Julian Dillinger, talking about the rise of artificial intelligence and hints at how the Grid will factor into that. Action-packed shots of several characters come next, and unlike blue-tinted previous instalments, this movie's colour palette is very red.
Jared Leto is also shown suited up, as is the returning Jeff Bridges. The latter's appearance drew cheers from fans at D23 and,...

Ever since it was announced that Disney was going back to The Grid for more Tron, fans have been asking the question: who’s going to be on soundtrack duties? One of the most memorable elements of 2010’s Tron: Legacy was its superlative score courtesy of French disco legends Daft Punk – but since the duo disbanded a few years ago, it was always a slim chance that they’d return for Joachim Rønning’s upcoming Tron: Ares. But now we have an official answer as to who's lined up, and it’s a particularly exciting one.
As confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo, the Ares soundtrack will be coming from none other than Nine Inch Nails – the industrial icons known for blending rock with ear-rattling electronic production. So, perfect for a Tron film, then.

Who's ready for some more biodigital jazz, man? Throughout its 40-plus year existence, the "Tron" franchise has always been a little too far ahead of the curve for its own good. Steven Lisberger's original 1982 "Tron" film was notoriously overlooked by the Academy in spite of its groundbreaking computer-generated visual effects, and even Stan Lee didn't really get what Lisberger was going for. When Joseph Kosinski's "Tron: Legacy" arrived 28 years after that, it similarly pioneered digital de-aging and the legacy sequel formula at a time when neither of those things were in vogue. Nevertheless, the forward-looking sci-fi property has gained a loyal following over the decades, which explains why we're currently awaiting a third movie in the form of "Tron: Ares."
Whereas the original "Tron 3," the canceled "Tron: Ascension," would have been more of a direct continuation of "Legacy," this new film shifts its focus to the eponymous...

Nine Inch Nails will score the upcoming Tron movie, Tron: Ares, Disney announced during its D23 presentation on Friday.

“Tron: Ares” arrives next year, following in the footsteps of 1982’s “Tron” and 2010’s “Tron: Legacy.” And at D23 on Friday the first footage from the movie was revealed. And it is a doozy.

Dillinger is giving a speech about how we are looking for life in the stars but that we should have been looking inside – inside the Grid that is.”

Nine Inch Nails, the band headlined by musician Trent Reznor, is composing the score for Tron: Ares, Disney announced Friday at D23.
The reveal occurred during a first-look at the sci-fi movie that is being headlined by Jared Leto and directed by Joachim Ronning.
And featured some snippets of the score work done so far. The previous installment, Tron: Legacy, had a genre-defining score from Daft Punk, so when it came to the new movie, the bar is set high.
Reznor created Nin in the late 1980s as an industrial hard rock band even though for the albums, it was the Reznor himself who was composing and playing the instruments. However, when Nin toured, the frontman assembled members who rotated in and out. The band was hugely influential in the 1990s and racked up numerous Grammy nominations and a couple of wins for songs “Wish” and “Happiness in Slavery.”

Bob Iger got a rock star-worthy welcome Friday night, as roughly 12,000 screaming fans gave the Disney CEO a standing ovation as he kicked off a super-sized panel at D23.

The history of visual effects, like every other aspect of the arts, exists on a spectrum. Yet there are undeniably milestone works that push a given medium forward, whether through sheer force of popularity and influence, or through innovation, or sometimes both. "Tron," a film made by Steven Lisberger in 1982, is one of those milestone movies. Although it began as a modest success at the box office, it quickly gained a cult following thanks to its application of innovative techniques, particularly its moments of computer animation. Despite those moments only amounting to about 15 or 20 minutes of screen time, it proved that computer graphics imagery could be viable in cinema, leading to the dominance of CGI that we see in fantasy and sci-fi films today.
Yet one of the problems with innovation is that, before new technology is proven to work, most folks either can't see how it'll work, or instinctively...

When it was announced that the hit television series "Yellowstone" would be coming to an end following its fifth season, fans at least knew that they'd have the already-announced spin-offs to look forward to. Unfortunately, the end of "Yellowstone" also meant the end of star Kevin Costner's time on the Western show, who instead pivoted to his own "Horizon: An American Saga" series of Western films. Would the "Yellowstone" name and the goodwill generated after five successful seasons be enough to sustain these spin-offs without the star? Well, when one barn door closes, another opens, and in the wake of Costner's exit, Kurt Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, and "Suits" star Patrick J. Adams have answered the call. First reported by TVLine, the "Yellowstone" spin-off known as "2024" is set to be retitled "The Madison," and is allegedly going to follow matriarch Stacy Clyburn and her family after they relocate from New York to Montana.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.
But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

After working with Tom Cruise, director Joseph Kosinski is all set to work with another A-lister in Hollywood. Kosinski will be helming a Formula One racing film, titled F1, starring Brad Pitt. The new film is being produced under Apple Studios and has already proven more challenging to the director than Top Gun: Maverick.

Kosinski is reuniting with Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Ehren Kruger in F1. Interestingly, racing driver Lewis Hamilton also serves as a producer on the film.

Rev up your engines, race fans and movie fans. Brad Pitt has teamed up with Joseph Kosinski — the visionary director with a keen sense for eye-popping set pieces, as displayed in his films Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick — for his new racing film Formula 1. If the amazing aerial scenes in Top Gun: Maverick are any indication, the racing sequences are sure to invoke the same amount of awe and thrills. Especially since the director, Kosinski, is working with the same creative team behind Top Gun: Maverick. He is also reuniting with screenwriter Ehren Krueger and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for the film.
